Thanks to everyone who chimed in on my http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/269181-fence-shield-m-p9c-642-a.html thread.

As of Friday I am no longer on the fence. Traded the Glock 26 for a Smith & Wesson M&P9C. This was a no tax trade, and only $25 out of pocket. I feel pretty good about the deal.

The 9C is the closest size wise to the G26. IMO it actually feels a tad smaller, I know the grip on the 9C is thinner for sure. Been a long time Glock person, but the G26 was my last one.

I am still on the wish list for a Shield, as I passed the one they got in to the next person on the list. Had they have not taken it I would of got both the M&P9C and Shield Friday.

As for the 642, that is still on my wish list as well. I will get one, and it will be the pocket/back up gun.

The 9c is the sleeper in the M&P line and after your first range session you'll know why. To most the pistol just feels good in hand, conceals well, and is a very soft shooting 9mm even with +P loads. Experiment with your backstrap inserts and see which one fits you best. I have large hands but prefer the small insert, I suggest you try a few magazines with each insert.
I predict you're going to be very happy with your new M&P9c.

Congratulations on a great gun! The 9c is my current every day carry piece and is one of the best guns I own. I'm a big fan of Glock but have switched almost exclusively to the M&P line and traded my nearly new Gen4 G26 for my M&P9c. I'm fast approaching the 1,000 round mark and am looking to run it in a few self-defense classes along with some IDPA matches as well. Fantastic gun and an incredible shooter; I picked up the XGrip sleeves to use with the fulls-size 9mm mags and that may be one of the most perfect combinations out there. Keep shooting it and let us know how it goes!

I love my Smiths, including my 9c. But, before you get a 642, try a Ruger LCR. That might be heresy here, but I just think the LCR's trigger and sights are much better; it's a more shootable gun.

I carry a 642 in my front pocket everyday. I'm an old fart who owns many new autos from glock, sig, and s&w, but I still go to the most reliable pistol. I'm not involved in anything workwise where I need to be armed, I just watch society degrading rapidly and my ccp gives me a sense of security. The thing I like the best about revolvers is I pull the trigger and if it doesn't go bang, the clearing drill is to pull the trigger again. If I put 2 in center of mass and 1 in your head and you still are bothering me, well we'll just have to deal with that if it comes. I've had an occasion where some macho teen was going to impress his girl by stopping his truck in the middle of the road and jumping out with a ball bat, cursing and yelling about what he was going to do to me. I showed him a 640 with crimson trace laser grips and explained that the red dot he saw on his chest was going to be replaced by red blood squirting out if he didn't get back in his truck NOW. End of confrontation. Revolvers work for some folks with practice and more practice.

Just a late chime in about the Airweight 642. Just got mine in matte silver about 3 months back and I"m haboluly luvin it. It just feels right in my hand and definitely the poster gun of simplicity. Don't know of any argument about the +P's either, I drop dead every time one hits me! No regrets.

Read your previous post, and glad you found one that makes you happy. I also have a 9c after trading a Glock 19 for it. Actually my wife got a 9c first, and I loved it so much, I had to get my own!! Also own a j-frame, and got an M&P340 after lusting for one for so long. Enjoy your 9c...it's a great gun!!

I like the idea of the additional capacity and the 9mm but how good are they for pocket carry? The little Smith disappears in my right front pocket but the autos seem to be right at the top size and weight wise. How are people pocket carrying these pistols?

I pocket carry my Shield 9mm in a Desanti 10 hours per day.

I traded out the stock sights for XS Big Dot because the stock rear sight is not pocket friendly.

My Shield is my only ccw after owning a Kahr CM9 and Beretta Nano.

I have shot 500 rounds of cheap ammo through her with zero malfunctions. Can't make the same claim with the other mentioned firearms.

No question I trust my life with the Shield.

I have a shield which fits in a sticky pocket holster (which sometimes needs to be tossed on the ground after drawing both out).

I ordered an M&P 9c for the larger capacity.

If MD gets CCW eventually, both would be carried depending on clothing and destination.

Little update. I used my new 9c in our local IDPA match last Saturday, ad was very pleased with how it preformed and its overall point ability. I ran around 85 rounds through it with out any issues. On one particular stage there were 2 targets at about 10 yards with center of mass slightly obstructed by cover. As I prepped for this stage I made mental note to just shoot head shots on those 2 targets. The 9C did not let me down. 2 holes about 1 1/2" apart on each. I was shooting a little slower than have in the past, but I planned to do that to familiarize myself with the 9C, and also because I had been shooting sloppy with my Glock26 in the past.

Need to put some more round through it, but so far, she's a keeper.
