One-Adam-12, One-Adam 12, see the man...

I do have to say, that in the circa Adam-12 days, most of my fellow Peace Officers could really shoot well. Marksmanship was cherished and admired. Perhaps they had to. We were very careful of our round count back then.

Not taking away anything from current Officers and for whatever reason, my observation is, on the average, there's not as much as an "appetite" for shooting excellence today. Not like there used to be.

Thus, one of my reasons for wanting to celebrate the K-38. You can call me an old fool if you want to.

If you like ADAM-12, forum member dscampbell's posting of the website 1Adam12-1Adam12.com is the place to go. I just spent an hour going through this site. Every aspect of the show including equipment, vehicles, and even ID cards is listed. There are websites within this website that take you inside 1 Adam 12, and the vehicle pictures are fantastic !

Take a trip through memory lane and enjoy the journey, especially my fellow LEO's current & retired...

Been watching Adam-12 and Dragnet lately. 2 episodes of each are on cable. I keep thinking those guys were so clean-cut and 'square'.

Then I switch to the local PA news and hear about corrupt cops breaking more laws than ya can shake a stick at. Seems like every week a Philly cop is getting investigated/arrested/prosecuted/fired.

Where are the Joe Fridays , Bill Gannons , Pete Malloys and Jim Reeds today?

... No officer in his right mind would venture out with a wheelgun in today's world. ...
I respectfully disagree with that statement.

Disclaimer:
I am not a LEO, do not play one on TV, and did not even stay in a Holiday Inn last night ... :D

On a related note, the series went off the air in '75. How close was that to the time-frame that the LAPD went over to semi-autos (or jam-o-matics as they are sometimes called)?

Mkk41: To answer your queation, retired or dead. They were TV cops. Yes years ago it was different. Today is very different. Many citizens today have no manners, no respect, and little morales. They feel the laws don't apply to them. They just don't give a darn about anything but what they are doing. LEOs are just in there way form their selfish criminal acts and greed, and they feel LEOs are disposable. Really sad how we have become. With all the budget cuts, cause no one wants to pay taxes towards anything, but they all want high wages. There is not the manpower to really prevent crime anymore, barely enough time to draw the chaulk line around you and move on. As the middle class gets squeezed harder it is going to get worse. This country needs to change it ways fast before it is too late.

A great thread! Ah, the memories...:) Thanks!

The militarization of police forces (a lot of them anyway) bothers me and I look back on those times and the equipment they used as being more appropriate for a constabulary force.

My partner and me in 1966 in our three piece suits with S&W model 10's under the frock coat and 12 rounds in loops on the belt. A far cry from the combat ready troopers of today.

A target is a target. Put the rounds where they count and you don't waste ammo or spray the neighborhood.

Agreed Jack Flash
I'd rather put one round on target than 6-8 rounds
in the general area. To be effective you must shoot
what you have well or at the very least competently.
Matters not whether it's a revolver or semi-auto.
But to each his own.
As a kid in the 60's-early 70's Adam 12 was always on
mine and my brothers "must watch" list.
They truly we're the "Good Guys"....

Loved Adam 12,Dragnet!
My Dad bought a semi auto to be stlyish. He carried wheel guns on the job from '58 to '87. He was trying to qualify for his FED Carry and was waving that semi auto everywhere, I handed him a Python he made that gun talk to him.

I watch it on HULU for free. The police tactics and procedures make me cring!

I'd much rather have a good 6-shot .357 (or .41) magnum revolver than a 15-shot 9mm. One well placed shot is all ya need. And as the range increases , the revolvers accuracy really comes thru.

Up until recent uniform regs were handed down , my local Chief carried a nickeled 4in .357 Python.

Seems that cool-headed marksmanship has been replaced by panicky spray & pray.

Recently in Philly , 16 officers unleashed 97 shots at a man with an empty revolver about 50ft away and scored 12 hits with their 9mm Glocks.

I love them K-38's I have a model 10-7 with a 4" bl. and a model 14-4 TH,TT & 8.375" bl.
