One of "those" days at the range.

I had one of those days at the range Tuesday that we all hate. I took the Victory 22 and the M&P9 for some practice time. For some reason these old eyes just could not get the front sight in focus. It's usually a little blurry but for some reason it was almost impossible to see it. The results with the Victory were bad enough but when I decided to burn up some older SD rounds with the M&P it was even worse. Let's just say if I had wanted to shoot myself it probably would have taken several mags. I won't take so long between range sessions next time.

Cheer up! I had 2 crummy days at the range this week. I couldn't buy a hit in the black for any amount of money with a M41 and two 1911's (one of them had S&W stamped on it). Today, between the rain, heavy clouds, a loose mount screw, and strong gusty winds, I used up all the scoring rings from an X to a 5 shooting 3 rifles (2 scoped 308 bolt guns and my Quigley 45-70). Bigger bullets didn't score bigger points.

My philosophy about bad range days is based on an old somewhat risque' Jay Leno joke, which I've modified to stay on topic and to avoid a ding from the powers-that-be.

I have bad days at the range, too, but even those bad days are good, because I got to go to the range.

This thread helps me feel a lot better. I now shoot daily off the front porch, some days you are on fire and others you are anything but, I think the hot streaks make you feel worse about the bad days. Its probably good and humbling too, reminding that you don't always shoot as good as you know you can, don't get discouraged and don't always expect to be on top. If you get mad and quit is when you really lose.

I'll go back this week and shoot some more. It's still more fun than working and I'll take my cheaters. Since my cataract surgery I rarely have to use them for anything but I'll see if they help me see that front sight better this time. Either way, I'll keep at it. *s*

What he said. There comes a point where you go to red dots or you just don't shoot as well. I like nice tidy handguns that holster in stock holsters, so I resisted red dots for years after it was clear they would be a game changer. JMHO

When I can't seem to hit anything I grab one of the 4X4's with some carpet tacked to it then sit down and try again. It always gets better.

Cataract removal and lens replacement changes the way we shoot. My best days are both eyes open, either with red dots on some, or the Crimson Traces on others. Got my best x-ring in years with my 637-2 (Crimson Trace) at ~30' at the range - barely over a quarter in size for five rounds SA. DA, however, was another story...

I've shot a lot since the surgery and even though the front sight was a little fuzzy I didn't do too badly. But this time I just couldn't see it at all. It's the first time it's happened. I'll see how the Rx readers do next range trip. But you still can't beat a little range time.

Look at it this way, if you find your way to the range and find your way back home it was a good day. Don`t worry about the small stuff.

A day at the range is a fine day. A day fishing is a wonderful day. Sharing either one with a grandchild or two is a blessing.

I've taken my granddaughter several times and the first question she asks after a range trip is "When are we going again?" You are exactly right, lobo.

I wear bifocals and had the same problem . Couldn't focus both at the same time . Trying to move my head up and down to look through the two lenses just wasn't working . Got a pair of progressives and all is good . No longer trying to look through one part for the front and one for the rear .

I have occasional bad days at the range but only I know about it.
On the other hand, when I have a good day i have no problem sharing pix and details everywhere lol.

Seriously for me its like fishing, golf etc in that some days everything clicks and I am successful and on other days it does not.

I will say though, when I'm having trouble at the range, even if just a couple mags worth; I take the time to try and determine what my issue was and before I leave get one accurate mag's worth on target.
