During my normal Sunday morning range visit, another club member with a new 15-22 had a OOB discharge and extractor blow out after about 10 or 15 rounds. The entire rear of the cartridge case blew out. I believe it was a Federal round.

After examining the case and gun and insuring there was no slug stuck in the barrel I reassembled the extractor for him and the gun worked properly for the remainder of his session.

The spring tensioned retaining bar was the newer type with the lug on it. This lug made it reasonably easy to reassemble the extractor into the bolt.

This was the first time I have seen this happen to a 15-22 at our range. We have about 6-8 members or friends of members who have 15-22's and bring them reguarly to the range.

Thanks LTC..
I used to shoot at Ray's before they closed down and am looking for another 'open to public' range..

Do you know of any?

Lex,
There are several shooting clubs / ranges in the Warren & Northampton Counties. All that I know of are private and you must join them.

Check Google for public ranges.

Fish and Game has a rimfire/muzzleloader only outdoor range in Clinton off of Rte.78.Open to the public. Its the site for hunter education, backs up to Spruce Run reservoir

The fish and Game range at Clinton is for licensed hunters and their guests. One member of the sooting party must be a licensed hunter.

Also, if I read the rules posted at the range correctly, no handguns are permitted, regardless of caliber.

This is a unsupervised range. The day myself and a friend stopped by it to have a look, there were several shooters on the line and their weapons handling and safety awareness left something to be desired.
