I sent my 60-10 back to S&W for excessive barrel gap. They replaced my barrel and opened up the forcing cone ALOT. I am afraid of how thin the forcing cone got , from the reaming process. Should I worry? I think it would be OK, just shooting .38s, but wont .357s crack the forcing cone if it is too thin?:o

Make sure you keep all documents with reference to what they did. If they made the changes and modifications then you should be good to shoot what is allowed. Might want to take pictures of it prior to shooting it in case something goes bad.

The critical dimension of a forcing cone is the outside diameter of the mouth, not the angle or depth of the cone.

The only way to measure the mouth diameter is with a special plug gage that's dropped into a clean cone.
If the cone is too big or too small, you get inaccuracy and if too small you get spitting of bullet metal.

I'd look around for a gunsmith with the gage and have your gun gaged to see if it's within spec. If not send it back immediately.

I think you will find accuracy will suffer long before the FC is thin enough to reduce strength dramatically. So if it is thin enough to impact strength that much, it may shoot poorly.

In case you are interested in checking it, a gunsmith can use a Plug gage to check it.

plug gauge - forcing cone diameter

A plug gauge will only measure correctly for its specific angle.
You can't verify a 5° cone with a gauge for an 11° cone.
It should be relatively easy to measure what's left of the wall thickness of your barrels rear end with a probe head.

J frame barrel faces always look thin. If it cracks S&W will warranty it. A 60-10 is a (new style) MIM gun so service should not be an issue.
