i'm getting a gun in a few days (non-smith) that have a decocker safety. Needless to say, I will not be using the safety when carrying it because when the SHTF, I don't want to remember to push down on the safety. I would have no problems if I had to push up but not down (I know it a small thing but I don't like pushing down on a safety).

After thinking about it for awhile, I think it become situational on the preference of the decocker only. I primarily use my S&W's for target practice, and like knowing I can put the gun on safety. For instance, if I am showing someone how to shoot for the first time, I can instruct them to put the gun on safety if they have an issue during firing, or if they have a question in the middle of a mag. Or if I set the gun down, the having the safety as a an additional precaution. However for carry I think the decocker-only would be a better feature to eliminate an extra step.

This is my old duty S&W in .45 cal with the decocker Md # 4506 - I liked it

We carried a S&W 6906 in 9mm as a back up gun - boy were both of these heavy by todays standards

Great shooters though.

I have a Beretta 92 Brigadier, which is an F gun (decocker and safety). Never had an issue with the safety. I then picked up a 96 Centurion slide to convert it to .40. This one was a G setup, which is decock only (looks the same, just the "safety" flips back up). That got me on the decockers, being it is one less thing to do.

Last year, I picked up a .45 Beretta PX4. The .45s only come in F configuration, so I did not have a choice. I looked around, and picked up a set of Stealth controls (closer slide release and decocker tabs). This can only be installed with converting it to a G setup (I guess safety, being they would be hard to flip up with so little area to grab; decocking isn't a problem), so I didn't have a big issue with it. Had it cera-plated, and actually got it back yesterday. Don't miss the safety, at all...
