So, I think the ejector issue has bit me in the butt. I've had my 15-22 for a couple months now. Did an initial cleaning, then fired about 300 rounds (CCI, Blazer and Fed bulk) with no problems at all. Nice and accurate! Over the weekend, I was out in AZ shooting with a buddy and put another 100 or so rounds through with no probs.

The next day though, after the first mag, it started FTE pretty much every time, no matter what ammo was used. I tried both my 10 rd mags and both my 25 rd mags, same result. The only time it fired without a problem is when I'd drop the mag.

I've attached some pics and want to know what you guys think might be happening. Sorry, it's dirty...haven't had a chance to clear it yet. Some pics look like the mag and ejector are touching and some look like there's a bit of space between the two. Think I should clean and then see if the problem persists? Do the pics look ok? Should I try the DIY fix or just send it to SW?

Thanks for your time!

The only time it fired without a problem is when I'd drop the mag. Or ejected?
My ejector touches the top of the mags too. Mine has more of a gap between the ejector and the center rib on the bolt though and no failure to eject problems at all.
Try a good cleaning with a quality CLP. It makes a big difference.

Thanks

To clarify, it would eject the spent casing fine after purposely dropping the mag, so there'd only be one round would be in the chamber and no other rounds would be fed.

Plot thickens here...I just broke my 15-22 down and the small little piece in the pics below fell out. I didn't hear any rattling around last night when I took the other pics. It happened so fast that I didn't see exactly where it came from, the upper or lower.

Can anyone identify this part...Thanks!

Does your extractor look alright in the bolt assembly?

shawnfergie. Great question!
That part is the new extractor retaining pin with the anti rotation tab feature. I believe your extractor is gone. No wonder it wouldn't eject right.
You can probably get a new one from S&W without having to send the rifle in.
Call Smith & Wesson. By Telephone: 1-800-331-0852 (USA) Mon-Fri 8:00AM-8:00PM Eastern Time.
Anybody else have an idea?

Interesting...thanks tacticool22. Anyone have pics of what everything should look like, extractor wise?

Thanks

Lucky guess on my part.

Check out my post here: my bolt assembly had a machining / manufacturing mark that I was wondering about.

Hey tacticool, I was the guy you spoke to about 3 -4 months ago about your mp15-22 rear stock sling attachment where my stock was slightly odd compared to other MP15-22s... don't know if you would remember or not.

Anyways there is the problem right there. S&W will get you fixed up right away.

Oh and what is the first letters of your MP15-22?? DON'T PUT THE ENTIRE SN # just the first three letters, i'm curious to see what model and how old your rifle might be. Mine is DTZ with the A1 birdcage threaded barrel.

And nice pictures, you did a good job with those.

Just a quick update for everyone. I got my rifle back from S&W today. Total of 3 weeks...1 week for them to receive, 1 week for them to fix and 1 week to get back to me.

The only thing the note said in the box said, as far as the repairs they made was "updated to latest spec."

That's it...no free mags either :(

Oh well, as long as it shoots fine again, I don't care :)
