I recently called my local GS asking if they still had the two 3913's available that I had seen last week. They told me they had one left BUT we have a pristine CS9 with the original box and 2 mags for $369.I almost broke my neck to get over there and put it on layaway and I made it before anyone snagged it:D and it is indeed pristine at a kick butt price. Now here's the problem-I have a 4516-1 (1989) that I picked up to keep my 910 company.I want the CS9 for summer carry but may have to give up the 4516 for the CS9 and of course this would become my all year carry.I love the 4516,it has to be one of the sweetest shooting .45's I have ever fired but it's weight riding iwb wearing shorts and tshirt won't work.I'm curious how many of you if faced with the decision, would give up a 4516 for the CS9 as a CCW? I know we're talking giving up a .45 for a 9mm but I'm just talking about the models. These decisions are my most feared when it comes to 3rd gen guns!!

One word, yes. The CS9 shoots well and carries even better.

I used to have a CS45, nice gun, soft shooting for a very small .45, but the trigger reach was a touch long for my small hands.
I still have my CS9, and it would be one of the last pistols I'd get rid of.
I passed my carry permit renewal qualification with it last year, with a better score than the other half dozen shooters, all of them shooting larger, 'fancier' pistols.
Keep the CS9, and oh, major score on that one!

CS9 at that price is a steal!!! Sure it won't punch as big a hole as the 45 but will most likely be a helluva lot more comfortable to carry IWB and/or year-round. You can always carry an extra CS9 clip which would give you total of 15 rounds available (7+7+1 in pipe) at a pretty light/comfortable weight. Kudos on the score.

Thanks alot for the input so far! I thought I would throw it out in the forum to get other views and that's +3 for the CS9.I just hate giving up a pistol to fund another because it's usually regretted but on gunbroker right now is a CS9 with a bid of $500!! So I guess I did score on this deal which rarely happens to me! Thanks again everyones input is much appreciated!

I have a CS9 that I recently purchased. It is a great little gun. It has become my full time carry gun.

At that price, I would have bought the one you got in a heartbeat. That way I would have twins. :)

I fact, if I found two at that price, I would own triplets. :) :)

The more the merrier.

Hard call to make, and I certainly can't pretend to be able to make it for anyone else.

Finding a good condition 4516-1 or -2 (or even one of the new production LE 4516-3's) is getting harder to do, though. Something to consider.

Personally, I found that I preferred to carry my 3913 or CS9 much more often than my original 4513TSW. I didn't mind carrying my issued new production 4516TSW, but if I'd had the option I'd have much rather carried an issued 3913TSW. I just like the balance, slightly better (for me) overall handling and controllability of the 3913 during fast-paced live-fire, and I find the 9mm to be a fine choice.

I'd be hard pressed to choose between the 3913 & CS9, though.

The CS9 can be a surprisingly accurate and nice handling model. It easily equals my 3913 in practical accuracy ... until I get out to 35-50 yards, at which time something about the 3913 just seems to make for a better choice.

I'd keep the 4516-whatever and spring to add the CS9, if possible.

It's not like they're making a lot of these anymore, you know ...

Luck to you in your choice. I'm keeping all of mine. ;)

FWIW, while I've fired many more rounds through my CS45 over the years (having owned it longer), I prefer my CS9 to the CS45 (but I'm keeping the CS45, too). :)

Thanks for all of the great replies.Think I am going to just have both:) the 4516-1 is in excellent shape with nary a mark on the original grips although I put hogues on it and just did an advanced takedown to check the internals which were spotless so it hasn't been fired much and very well taken care of.I'll post a pic of it and when I get the CS9 I'll post that too.Happy shooting everyone!

Keep your 4516 for Winter Carry and carry the CS9 for Summer time. You will regret getting rid of the 4516 i had one to compliment my 4506 and kicked myself by selling it claiming it was too heavy. Now 10 years later i just bought a NIB CS45 to go with my restored 4506. If it is really hot or i am just walking around the neighborhood or going out to a nice dinner i slip in my Robar NP3 Ruger LCP 380. Otherwise my CS45 is with me always.

You got a great price for the CS9. The place i bought my NIB CS45 has a CS9 NIB for $ 599.00 I thought someone on the forums bought it but i still see the NIB CS9 and CS40 listed.

Thanks Semperfuzz you took the thought right outta my head! 4516 for winter and CS9 for summer.Actually carried the 4516 while it was cold and didn't even notice the weight especially small of back carry (which I don't normally do) and it felt right at home.I'm not a big guy at 5'6" 195 so some guns just cannot be hidden well and it's weird that I can carry my GI 1911 and hide it I guess because of it's width. That's a nice pair you got there! My buddy carries his Ruger .380 in the summer and swears by it even though he's the same guy I warned of walking around Atlanta with his Kimber Crimson Carry in a Fobus kydex OWB:eek:-told him that was not at all smart and when he started getting questions from thugs if he was a cop,he finally wised up and now he's IWB.Whew! Drawing attention to one's self carrying is a recipe for disaster imo.Anyhow I'll shut up now and thanks for the reply!

My answer is simple Keep Both.I love my CS9.Put Trijicon Night Sights and Big Dog's Custom CS9 Delrin grips. For that price you stole the CS9.You will see the CS9 is such a pleasure to carry you will probably use it for year round carry......Mike

Those Big Dog grips are the bomb. It's funny how alot of people want the hogues instead of the Xenoys and when they sent the CS out with hogues everyone wants the Xenoys back! Personally I can't bring myself to part ways with the Xenoys on my 4516 or 910.I don't know what it is,maybe the fact that I really like to hang on to factory parts in case of a sale.
