A lightbulb went off in the head as I walked by my automotive detailing shelf/supplies. On a lark a couple months ago I bought some Chemical Guys optical brightener at a discount store. As I've been servicing some of my sewing machine collection lately, I grabbed a paper towel and applied some to the sewing machine paint. Wowza! This stuff really works. Now deviant mind that I have I'm thinking 'what will this do on a blued revolver?' Pulled out a somewhat patina'd model 14 and applied to that too. The difference is amazing. Of course any worn bluing remains, but the shine from the un-worn blued areas is quite remarkable. Not sure the ingredients....probably some sort of nano-particles with a polymer binder, but unlikely to have any chemical potential (acidic, or basic) to harm the steel/bluing. I may look up the MSDS to see what it discloses.
I typically have a few pieces on display on a shelf, rotate them occasionally, and am going to 'enhance' them with this stuff. Should be quite durable as it's designed for outdoor UV exposure.
I don't think I'd use it on a carry piece though. It does make them a bit more slippery. Thought I'd share.
