Options for Storage Apart from a Safe

I was initially considering getting a handgun safe, but it seems like something of this size is not compatible with Goldenrod units.

Humidity has been a concern for me, and I am trying to keep it down while my gun is in storage. I am planning on buying a Bore Store for when I put it away, but I do not want to get any of the long term storage bags as I plan to carry the gun often.

I bought one of the plugin remington dehumidifiers with color changing desiccants that plugs into the wall to recharge. I placed this along with a hygrometer in a closed plastic tub with my gun, and it did absolutely nothing to affect the humidity levels. I then tried adding holes to the tub to slightly increase ventilation, and still the remington product did nothing. I am also not interested in the desiccant cans that need to be put into the over to "recharge," or pouches of desiccants that will need to be replaced.

In light of the fact I will not be purchasing a safe, what are some other options that could help keep the gun dry? I have considered getting another plastic tub and installing a goldenrod unit - but I am unaware of the temperatures they reach and do not know if they would be safe to be left alone in contact with plastic. I am also wondering, provided the installation and use of a Goldenrod unit would be safe and effective, would I want make the container as airtight as possible, or would I want to put holes in it? I have heard that when using Goldenrod units, the container must be ventilated for them to be effective.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

I have touched the goldenrod in my safe and it is not hot, but warm. Not hot enough to burn, so I do not think it would harm or be dangerous to a plastic tub.
