Orange County, CA. Dog needs a home

Thanks for all the kind offers. His contact humans took off for AZ for the weekend & I haven't heard back from them. Hopefully they are still networking him.

As is usual, they told me about the dog on Thursday & his time is up Monday.

I'm a bit leery of bringing an unknown quantity in with my own dogs. My wife ignored the safety procedures I worked out last time & I wound up with a chewed up Cattle Dog.

Well Fishslayer, you were hoping for an "Easter miracle" and, because of all the fine people listed above, it could happen. Let's do it!

I just got an email. They say his time is up "Saturday."

I'm not sure if they mean "Saturday" yesterday or "Saturday next week.

Good news. He has until next Saturday! :D

Thanks for all the kind offers. Transport to PA would be a last resort. We are networking him locally and there are some possibilities, we hope.

There is a Pet Expo in OC April 20. Not sure I could get him de-stressed from his recent conditions in time. From what I understand he is housetrained but that's about it.

At least now we have a little time to work with.

Just got this email...

Hi Rick

I wanted to give you more info on Jameson's background… we know his whole history. If you could come by and meet him at the Vet, you could talk with Pat (her sister had Jameson for his whole life). She knows him very well….

Here is the info.

I saw a few postings about the fact that nobody really knows Jameson and how he is with other dogs. I probably didn't explain things well enough. Jameson's owner got him as a puppy and has had him for his entire life.

The owner of Jameson and Pat know him VERY well. He didn't just come from somewhere unknown. We have a great background on him. He is a big dog, lots of energy, has NEVER bitten or attacked another dog or person. He lived for 6 years with a small dog and they were fine. He recently went with a woman who has 5 big dogs (just to give him a break from the kennel). She had Jameson with the 5 dogs for a weekend. He did great with 4 of them and didn't really like the 5th one. Jameson is basically like 70% of the dogs in my neighborhood. They like some dogs and they don't like others. There are about 30% that like everyone and everything and are submissive and then there are all the others that like some dogs and don't like others. These are the dogs that don't do well at dog parks. They are all sweet dogs, they just don't get along with all of them.

When it comes to Jameson and other dogs, he just needs a place where he can adjust to his suroundings and his care taker and then go through the process of meeting and getting used to another dog(s). My experience is that it takes a little time. You can't just throw everyone is the backyard and see what happens. He just really needs someone who can give him a little time to feel safe and settled and then he will definitely be ok with most dogs.

think Jameson's biggest challenges with getting a home is that he is a mix, he's 7 years old and he's a big dog. I've realized that these are all huge strikes against him.

I hope this helps. Please call me if you or anyone else wants to come meet him.

Thanks.

Heidi

Good to hear Fish! I hope you can find something local, but if not my offer stands. PM me with info on where to send the money! And if he gets a home without being shipped, I'll donate my cash to a local Greyhound rescue.

Thanks for that. Just might take ya up on it. An OC small breed rescue is going to be getting us into the Pet Expo.

UPDATE: Literally in the middle of writing this I got a call from one of Jameson's humans.

Things are looking up. He may be going into rescue down here in SanDawg. I may or may not wind up as his foster.

Paws crossed! ;)

A tip of the ol Stetson to all for what you are doing. Plumb admirable it is.

Jameson is safe!

Just got back from dropping Jameson at the Second Chance Rescue in San Diego. His new foster mom is picking him up there.

Jameson is a wonderful dog. Ran up to me wagging his tail like he's known me forever. Gave me a couple nice kisses on the face, too! He's a friendly, rambunctious boy!:D

Blessings and thanks to everybody who volunteered to help out.
