Went to LGS, they only had about 25 people in front of me who have already ordered, so I put in an order for the Shield 40. Have no idea when it will arive.

The LGS is one of, if not the largest in the area. Hopefully the wait won't be too long.

I have two 40 M&P's to shoot in the meantime, so time will go fast.

I had to wait 5 weeks just after they came out and I ordered one from my LGS and was #two on the list, I like mine enough now that it replaced my M&P40Compact which is now a backup!

Weird, every gun store I've been too since the shield came out has had at least 1 shield in stock. Gunstore I went to tonight has 2 .40 shield's in stock.

wrongway;

You have to get in line SOMETIME to get a Shield ! Might just as well be NOW !

I have one and really feel good about the fact that I bought , Made in U.S.A. though I have owned S & W handguns for the past 44 years. I just like S & W quality.

I live in Ohio, and noticed there is a shop in Cleveland area that has 14 Shields in 40 cal in stock. I thought about taking a road trip tomorrow to pick one up. I will think a little more on this.

When I got mine, I was prepared to call every lgs within 100 miles. Found the Shield 40 just 42 miles away. Bought it on the phone. Have a "range" in my back yard. It is a 2' diameter chunk of log sitting on a stump. I draw a circle on a paper plate and tack it up and bang away. Shoot a couple of mags about every other day. The targets aren't cute, but the price is right.

Wrongway, If you decide to make a drive for a Shield 40, you might want to check with Fin, Feather, Fur. They have a store in Ashland, Ohio and they might have one. Would save you a few miles.

I would think that if you are finding that many in stores in your area, they are probably price gouging. There are far too many people seeking these guns literally all over the U.S. for local shops in your area to be able to keep them in stock continuously unless they are pricing them too high. I spoke with S&W CS yesterday and they claim spare magazines are in such short supply they aren't shipping any. It seems they are selling these little gems as fast as they can produce them.

As I've said in other post. I was put on Cabelas in Dundee,mi waiting list. Though I didn't know they actually up me on there. I was just calling around for one. Took them like 3 months to call me for a 9mm. However, I found a store that had 25 of the 40mm and like 10 of the 9mm just a few miles away. However, I don't know how many where in front of me there. So I guess I could have gotten two 9mm if I picked up the second. At the time I could have picked up a bunch... if I had the money that is.

Just checked with Fin, Feather, and Fur, they don't have any in inventory at all.

Dave,

The store in Cleveland only had 4 when I called this morning. They were selling for $430 plus tax, title, license, etc., so they were not really gouging on price.
