ouch. Ouch. OUCH!!!!!

I think you'll find that your shirt sleeve length measurement is now about two and a half inches shorter.

Since I got my little rescue dog we hardly ever see rogue rhinos around here, so I doubt I need one of those. If I got one I'd mount it in a turret on a tracked vehicle.

Big revolves the 44mag will do just fine.

If I was younger I was like Tim Allen on tool time bigger is better ahh, ahh, ahh. My 444 is a cream puff to shoot next to my 30-06. But the 338win mag at 4,000ft lbs @ muzzle and still 2,700ft lbs @ 200 yards is serious whip lash on my old battered, beaten up body now. But what I shoot at expires on the spot after some airtime. A 500 s&w for me now no way.

If your young and want a new big bore rifle think semi auto. Now I wish I purchased the 338wm in a BAR.

Dang. I'm not very recoil sensitive but that looks painful. Done the 300gr thing from the 4" comped .500, wasn't too bad really with those thick Hogues.

I fired a 10g single shot that weighed less that my Marlin 1895GBL. Once. My poor cheek. Since becoming an adult that's my worst recoil experience. Shooting a .30-06 as a 75lb 11 year old was the worst ever though...ah childhood.

Some wonderful remarks in this thread!!!!

I had a 4" 500 with 500gr Hardcast Lead.It actually was not that bad,I will take it over an Airweight .357 any Day

I still maintain that shooting an Airweight with full house .357 Magnum loads is an insane thing to do but folks do it - I'm with you, though - I WON'T do it. But I'm not in a big hurry to shoot a .460 or .500 anyway.

I like to tell folks that "recoil is your friend" but I sold my .416 Rigby after martial arts messed up my right shoulder - "a man's got to know his limitations".

I can still shoot my .45-70 Guide Gun, my custom Mauser in .35Whelen, so I get plenty of booming entertainment. Never mind all of my larger .357s or compact .45 ACP or .45 Colt wheelguns - all boom enough for me!.

Those really big boomer handguns are fun for some folks and I'm all for it, you knock yourselves out, I would never gainsay your fun or the shooting of any firearm. Enjoy! :D

It is a fun photo, though, that's for sure!

One of the few times I saw a (modern) BAR in deer camp (forget the caliber), it failed to work.
I am sure a lot of that was operator error and failure to maintain but still:

When I think big bore rifle, for some reason I think double rifle.
Euros consider this a medium bore.
It's quite popular there for moose and hog (almost wrote squirrel). Maybe more popular than over here.
While it weighs the same as the Marlin it "kicks" way less due to intelligent stock design.
I think it may stand out at deer camp too :)

Na if it hurts to shoot its no longer any fun!
Just my opinion

If it burns powder I'll shoot it at least once but the backpacker 500 I shot was more than enough fun for me. Two rounds and I opened the cylinder and handed it back. Made my Keith loaded 44 s feel like wad cutter cupcake loads.

That round is begging to made as factory offering in a Marlin 1894. A little 16-18 inch carbine would be perfect for a pig gun.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

And I have a 649. I take it to the range as a punishment, or to get my buddies. It's fun to see the look on their faces.

But I do carry it full of .357!

The .500? I'm not sure I'm your man..:o

H & R made a handi rifle chambered in 500 for a while on their rifle frame but I think it's to high pressure for the marlin 94. So if your interested they are around. But the fact that the 500 would make a GREAT carbine round was my initial impression as well. The fact that smith build a pistol that could digest the 500 or the 460 with out dissolving really just impresses the hell out of me. The sammi spec pressure for the 500 s&w is the same as the 30-06 60k. That in itself explains why it feels like somebody just hit you in the hand with a hammer every time you let one of those monsters go.
