One of the most unfortunate characteristics of social media is that people seem to lose sight of the fact that there’s a real, live, human being on the other side of that computer screen. People write things online that they would never, ever say in person to someone else.

Absent The Rules, the S&W Forum would be just another internet sewer. Thanks Chad — to you and the other moderators — for keeping this the most civilized site on the web.

It’s a frustrating time right now. Often calls for what Mom told us when we were little tikes - “If you can’t say something nice, just don’t say anything.” A lot of wisdom in that simple little sentence.

I was involved with small town politics for a bit. Fellow who convinced me to enter politics suggested a standard.

"Don't say or do anything you wouldn’t want your Mama to read about in the local newspaper."

My lady and I spent yesterday in the Shenandoah National Park. The leaves are starting to turn, the weather was beautiful, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky...just perfect!

My granddog Burgie is escaping his puppy brother this weekend. We went to the coffee shop this morning, he enjoyed the fire pit and sitting on my lap watching the world go by.
