Out of these three options which would you choose?

S&W M&P PRO 9mm 5in barrel w/2 mags & case ***LIKE NEW*** 429.00

There is also another 9mm PRO w/4 mags but doesn't say LIKE NEW for 429.00.

This is what I have to choose from at a local shop. There is going to be a gun/knife show here also this weekend so I'm torn on what to do. I would go buy the .40 because that was myfirst pick but Don't want to miss out on a better deal possibly at the gun show. But on the flip side the .40 may sell before next week.

I like my 45C but make sure the short grip is a good fit for you.

I do fine with mine and don't mind the compromise in grip length and round count for concealment.

Yes the short grip is fine because I have small hands. That was the first thing I noticed about .40 M&P compact I looked at. I loved the way it fit in my hand.

The clear choice for me would be the 9 Pro. You will be VERY hard pressed to find that particular gun any cheaper. Mine was $485 tax free with an L.E. discount.

The compacts you mentioned can be beaten by $50 to $75 each and will be quite stiff in recoil. I'm not recoil sensitive but I admit my 9c gets my attention. I think 40c or 45c would be good for EDC but not as fun to shoot.

The pro could serve well for HD, carry, range fun, and even competition and out of the box, it's easily the best of the M&P lineup. If you don't like the frame/fit in you hands with the Pro, you won't like it in compact.

At $429, and because there are fewer for sale on the used block, you will be able to dump the Pro if you don't like it. It will go much faster and you will probably make about $50 in profit.

It seems to me that .40's are losing their once soaring popularity so unless you really want that round in that gun, I'd pass. Ammo is going up, recoil is snappy and alot of commercial 9mm loads are devastating.

I have all 3 calibers and own a handful of M&P's. Sure, a 9mm ain't the biggest dog on the block but (to steal someone else's words) no one has volunteered to stand in front of mine.:

Jet guns.com has both the M&P 9mm and .40 S&W for $439.00 including shipping it will cost a total of $444.00 if you include shipping insurance, I ordered one in .40 last Thursday and it got here today!

If you want a compact for carrying, the .45 has a much less snappy recoil and is a harder hitting round...imo. For LE duty I carry my full size .40 and LOVE IT. I also conceal it for off duty carry and conceal it well. If I didn't carry it for duty, I would trade it in for the .45c. But like Avery said, that is a great price on the 9mm pro.

Mainly this gun will be for protection. I won't be doing alot of target shooting except for just practicing. This will also be my concealed weapon.

The 9mm did seem like a great deal when I was comparing the prices of the guns, but I was worried if the 9mm would be ideal for protection? I hope to never be in the situation were I would need to use it, but when that time comes I want something that's gonna do the job.

For what it's worth

I have the .40 FS and really like it. Recoil is no problem for me. A buddy has a .40 compact and recoil is much sharper in that model.

The .45 compact may be a good compromise as you will be able to use the longer mags for reloads....

worried that the pro 9m isn't good enough for protection... consider the fact that it is easy to shoot and extremely accurate. protection is about confidence and accuracy not about caliber.

Only thing I would pipe up to say is that he mentioned about wanting to use it for concealed carry. Doesn't the 9mm pro have the 5" barrel? Only thing I would say is that would be much harder to conceal than the .40c or the .45c out of the choices he originally posted.

There is no question that the 9mm, .40 or the .45 would have any problems stopping the suspect given proper shooting techniques applied by the shooter, so that shouldn't really even have to come into question.

But I do feel that he would probably have a little more trouble trying to conceal the 9mm pro vs either the .40c or the .45c. After that, it pretty much would be personal preference on how much he does/doesn't mind the recoil between either the .40c or the .45c if he's going with a compact model (or go with the 9c for less recoil).

I'd get the 9mm pro for the money. I carry a full size 1911 daily, so a full size 9mm won't be an issue for CCW.

I agree regarding the 40c especially. I try to shoot at least 100 rounds ever two weeks and the recoil has become a non-issue. By the way, I have a bit of arthritis in my hands and have no problem shooting the 40c. I also have a full size 9 but, the 40c is my preference.

If your first pick is the .40, then buy that one. A "good deal" on a gun you don't really want isn't a good deal at all.

If I want something that's in my hand, I have the money, and it's worth it to me...I buy it.

I agree with Frailer...no sense in sitting back later going, "Shoot, I guess I should have went with the .40c." Then trying to sell whatever you did buy to get the .40c that you should have bought in the first place (if that's what you truly wanted to begin with).

Not that it's bad to ask opinions, but remember, they are like buttholes and everyone has a different one. So, one person might absolutely love the .40c and the person in the booth right next to them at the range can't stand the .40c. In the end, it's what works best for you, your shooting style and what you like/don't like. Like a lot of people have mentioned before (even in other threads), won't do you a lot of good if you went with a different type of gun because others said to do it and you don't like it so it sits in your sock drawer all the time. If it ever comes time to need to use it, you don't want to be standing there with nothing to draw because you hated shooting the gun and keep leaving it at home because you went with what "others" liked. Know what I mean?

Always good to research, but in the end, you still have to make the decision based on your own personal needs. I personally love the .40 S&W round. Always have. Does that mean I think 9mm, .357 sig, .45 acp, .380 auto, etc rounds are bad? Heck no, but my preference is for .40 S&W. But that might not work for you as it does for me, so maybe a 9c would work best for you even though I'd rather go for a .40c instead. Again, it's an opinion and everyone has a different one.

That's a great life philosophy!

The 9pro is a heck of a deal though. The M&P can be bought new with 3 mags for $398. So if you want a deal grab the 9, otherwise just buy new for less.

Update.

I went this evening to get the 9mm Pro but both were sold in the last few days............So now I'm going to hit the gun show here this weekend and see if I can't find one there. If not then I will be buying a 9mm range kit.
