This economy BS is getting old. Packed up and moved to the middle Kansas, got the company out of a bind in tax season 2011, worked my butt of this last tax season. I was a dedicated, concientous, and reliable employee. Last Monday I was informed there were changes being made in my position and they did not include me. What it boils down to is there was not enough work for all of us. Last year it didn't seem to matter, apparently this year it does.

Being self-employed, I'll always have a job, but these days it hasn't been paying so well. And some days, the boss can be a $!*#.

Amen brother. Know the feeling all to well.

Rockin' it with my Maxx, iKream and T-Talk

Just found this post. Extremely sorry to read of your situation. Twice in 33 years I have been in the same position. Of course the company/owner says they're sorry... and maybe they are. But so what? They're also sorry when they shank their drive into the woods. With the current tight economy it is entirely understandable why many on the receiving end of pink slips do not believe one thing employers may say.

29aholic: I remember you're move down there to get that job. I'm truly sorry it has turned out like this for you.. I worked for one place for 35 yrs.. I felt pretty comfortable that I could ride it out easily at that job for another 10 yrs to retirement.. Sept 2001 at age 54 myself and 30 others were pretty much let go. Since then it's been 4 jobs and so much BS and low pay.

Curtis, I’m sorry to hear about the job lose, no matter how it happened it still hurts. I wish you the best of luck in finding new and continuing employment.
I find it very hard to believe that the economy is improving, when we have so many good solid folks who did the correct thing career wise are, through no fault of theirs, currently unemployed; even worse the job market for mid-life professionals does not look real promising right now.

Curtis....sorry to hear about the bad luck....
If your job search brings you to the Houston area...you've got a place to stay while you look!

Sorry to hear that. I just learned today that my job is being all rearranged and I'll be working in different locations now. I'm still employed but this will not be good for me either.

This can really be discouraging for you. Happened to me in 1997 and turned out to be the best thing for me.

My prayer and hope for you is that this is the best thing for you. It is not easy and we are here to listen and help as we can.

That blows to be brought in to fight a fire and then let go. Small wonder US companies are always muttering about staff loyalty. Too many don't realise that loyalty has to work both ways.

As of 1 August I also became unemployed, but only because the small consultancy firm I worked for could no longer afford to pay me to do gardening while waiting for a government contract. The government customer still desperately wants me to work for him, but the mechanisms are frustrating him, too. Maybe next month....

Thanks guys

Yep it really is a blow to my ego. I am honestly at a loss as to what to do at this point. The economy has essentially cost me my last two jobs.
I have always taken every job with the intent to stay on for the long haul, but apparently that's not what is wanted now days. I figure I have at least 20 good years left to offer someone who wants a dedicated employee.
