outed for carrying

Changing cardiologists now, partly because his nurse was mightily offended that I was carrying to an appointment. She told me to leave it in the car, I explained that it was a job requirement. Her problem, not mine.

My regular doc is a gun guy, couldn't care less.

There are certain advantages to a more than slightly unwelcoming demeanor.:D

Had a little trouble with my cell phone a few weeks ago out in the waiting room at my primary doc's office (yearly visit time). I had to open the battery cover and mess with it. I used my carry knife to do the task since none of my keys would work. It's an assisted opening (CRKT Hissatsu folder) knife, and I opened it as intended. A woman sitting near me got up and moved, and I realized that she was "one of them". Oh well.

It's unpredictable loony tunes like this guy why you WOULD like to carry into doctor's offices, hospitals, etc. However, private property (or applicable law) can prevent us from going armed when we need it most.

I've never been 'outed' b/c I almost always open carry. Even then, most people just don't notice the N-frame on my hip. They are too busy with themselves in their own little worlds.

When I do conceal, it's in situation where I need it to be deeply concealed. That's when a J-frame in a quality pocket holster works great.

For what it's worth, I think that guy was going to make a scene that day no matter what. If he hadn't seen your pistol, he would have started ranting about the aliums coming from Jupiter or the invisible time travelers.

buckshaner,

Even if you had left the pistol in the truck/car the same thing would have happened; unless you also left your holster in the vehicle. That is what the fool saw.

Quite often I go in places when I can't carry and lock the gun in the car - but I do not unfasten my belt and remove the holster.
It is hard enough to pull the gun and lock it up with getting undressed at the same time.

What happened was NOT caused by you!!

While this is true, the OP does get some of the blame.

I don't know the laws in DE, but here in CA allowing your holster to show could be considered brandishing. Yes, I know, it's stupid, but this is the world we live in.

How about one of those badges that says, "Offical United States Taxpayer"? My first guard job was for a outfit called "U. S. Guard Co." I stayed there only long enough to get some eating money. (less than a week or so.) Somewhere I still have that badge. Actualy, I was a little ashamed of it as even in those young days I knew it was a play on words and I thought it out of line. That was just short of 50 years ago. I suspect they have been out of business for a long time.

I've concealed LONG ARM's without this sort of issue.
reevaluate your methods of carry. Getting called out for being made is your fault, and yours alone.
If its something to grow angry about at all, you should be angry with yourself for mistakes you made.

If this forum were a face to face venue, I am sure we'd see more firepower than the SHOT show, and we'd be fine with it.
However we have to share this world with people who simply do not share our point of view
Act accordingly

Not sure who your talking 2...but I take full responsibility 4 being outed...that wasn't the point. I was not only pissed with the nut job but pissed with myself as well... 4 having a chitty belt which just made me start rethinking my entire wardrobe since it was time for some new clothes either way. I thought posting would help my thought process as well as get some opinions and some helpful tips from all the knowledge that is readily here. Not talked 2 like I'm a 2 year old ....the rest that's on my mind I will hold 2 myself

Closer to 16 year old where the final adjustments are made before they are declared a man.

2 year old level is what you get after a 911 switchboard lights up with calls and the whole of the PD shows up 5 seconds ahead of the news vans.

Yours was a very fortunate case where greater minds prevailed.
I learned long ago not to rely upon greater minds, as their presence tends to be optional.

Most every Dr's office and Clinic and Hospital have No guns signs posted and in NC these signs carry the force of law. Were they not posted I would carry.

For a few years I was meeting a business associate at a third party business location. She is from faaaaaar lefty Madison WI and a dedicated opponent of anyone being able to have firearms, never mind carry them.
She knew I was a competition marksman and on occasion berated me for engaging in such a hideous activity.
After WI FINALLY passed conceal carry she would insist that I not carry in her presence. The people of the third party location where we met were not concerned and did not tell me I couldn't carry, there, and they did not have an anti-self-defense sign at the door. Several times this business associate would pat my waist to discover whether I was carrying and would protest when she felt my gun.
I politely had it out with her in the presence of the third party we were meeting with, reminding her I had passed a criminal background check and was carrying in compliance with the law, and the third party people had no objection. I further told her not to touch me again.
She seemed very unhappy but left me alone after that. I was relieved when our business association was completed and I no longer had to meet with her.
I'm just glad we never went to a restaurant because I'm sure she would have "outed" me.

She would have touched me ONCE...before getting a "reason" to never do it again!
Have your opinion - you're entitled to it (however stupid it may be), but don't ever think that your opinion gives you the right to dress me down in public!!!
I'm willing to bet SHE engages in MUCH more hidious activities than competition shooting.

GONNA TRY & NOT LECTURE

I believe you got it, concealed means concealed. From a former "in the field type" all I can offer is it's not a good place to try and keep it concealed, especially if they ask you to get into a gown. Also a Dr may be hesitant to prescribe certain meds to someone he knows conceal carries, & it opens a whole can of worms for him, are you mentally stable?, a threat to his other Pt's/practice/license? If you read the warning labels on almost any med a "POTENTIAL" side affect is OFTEN "may cause drowsiness", "do not drive or operate heavy equipment". Even as a pro gun guy myself, If I see someone is carrying, you bet I am now on yellow alert, right or wrong. I can't tell if someone is a good guy or a bad guy by looking at him/her. In the state with the highest # of ccp's, I am quite aware that anywhere I go that has more than a few people present, there is a very good chance some are armed. Are ALL CC people highly experienced and well trained, ABSOLUTELT NOT. It's getting to the point I'm more worried about catching one from being caught in a crossfire, or "he looked like a bad guy & I thought he was a threat", from "friendlies", than from a bad guy. Does that make me ANTI 2nd, NO. Am I concerned about the huge #'s of CC permits being issued daily, YES. It's kind of hard to argue with the fact that the more guns out there (not being adequately secured), the more guns are going to end up in the hands of kids or criminals. NOW the need for us to be more responsible & careful is greater than ever, IMO.
