Got any facts to back up your concerns, or is this just speculation? With gun ownership and CC permits on the rise, I have not noticed any upward trend in the news of friendly crossfire, something you can be sure would make headlines in the anti-gun media.

When CC is discovered: an opportunity to educate?
I am VERY new to the gun culture, so apologies if this is idealistic and/or naiive...isn't this an opportunity for CC owners to educate the media-brainwashed public? Instead of retreating deeper into the shadows, if an unintended exposure occurs, seems like I might let someone know, "I am sorry if I scared you (kind, reassuring smile). That is not why I am carrying. I am carrying to protect you (or the inclusive "us") from the guys who do want to scare you".
Now I am NOT advocating carelessness or flaunting, and this presumes you are carrying within the limits of the law. That being said, if someone spies a glance under your coat at your shoulder holster, or detects an outline at your belt line, and you are legal, why behave defensively?
Turning around a culture that is increasingly unfriendly to the 2nd Amendment is a change that we are all at the center of. You don't change someone's mindset by hiding. You change it with a friendly invitation to learn the facts.

What you will quickly learn Mr. Charles, is that they aren't interested in the facts! They ONLY want YOU disarmed...so they can "feel" safer.

Thank you for your perspective, sir. I don't have time to look them up, but in a series of very inspiring threads awhile back, one of our member LEOs, Mr. Faulkner, did just as you said, and turned a seriously anti-gun couple around. They had moved to Arkansas from a very anti-gun area, and complained to him in a restaurant about the patrons carrying. He proceeded to educate them, even taking them to a CCW class he helped teach, and between him and the sheriff, they led the couple to see their error and change their view. I don't remember all the details, but the situation was similar to the one discussed here.
Though there are indeed many folks who would respond as Protected One has suggested, there are others who will respond positively, if we handle the situation properly.

I agree about them not being interested in facts, but they really don't care about feeling safe. What they really care about is being able to control every thing you do in your life.

Good for them. Personally, I don't carry to educate...I carry to protect - myself, loved ones, and (in certain situations) others.

@ P.O., yes, there will always be those, "Don't confuse me with facts, I know what I know!" types, or worse, like the guy in the doctor's office who freaked out at the beginning of this string.
I look at it like missionary work. Nobody is going to learn anything new unless we present what we know. After we do, we step back and let them decide for themselves.
Of course, this isn't an approach for everybody. But we do know what will change if we do nothing, right?

Simple answer is to have a brief case in the car.
Carry it in a natural fashion and no one will feel threatened.
Just be sure not to leave it sitting somewhere........
I have a Maxpedition bag that I carry everywhere! The people that I work with jokingly refer to it as my "man purse." What they don't know is that I have a Colt .38 Super in my bag, along with a reload. While it's not my preferred method of concealed carry, I'll always have a gun within arm's reach, and it's so routine for me to have the bag, no one ever questions it.
