+p ammo in MP9C

Very interesting and helpful thread. I was planning on doing what MSG Glenn suggested. I have been able to get my hands on practice ammo, and now started focussing on jhp for SD, including +p. Just wanting to try a few different brands and see what I like.

Seems like most say 147g is the max. I accidentally bought Hornady Critical Duty 220g last week. I didn't know it was for long barrel 9's. Should I avoid shooting it in this gun? I only got a box for personal defense.

critical duty for 9mm is 135 gr and 135 gr +p. I have both, have shot both. They don't expand that much, but penetrate like a sumbitch. You're looking at roughly .55" expansion and about 15-16" of penetration out of the 135+p. the 220 gr is 45acp.

Thank you, I stand corrected.

Most, if not darn near all police agencies issue either Plus P or Plus P pluss ammunition as their duty rounds in 9mm, and in the day's of yore, .38 Special. If they were to cause a danger to the officers I seriously doubt they would be issued and reuired for use. Will they creat more or fast wear on the weapon? Yes. Is it significant with limited use? I seriously doubt it.

You do have to be careful with which +p+ you use as there is no SAAMI spec for it.
9mm is spec'd at 35,000PSI
9mm+p is spec'd at 38,500PSI
9mm NATO is spec'd at 36,500PSI

there's nothing as a maximum for +p+...hence the danger. You've got to be a little in to reloading and looking for overpressure signs like flattened primers and cases that are expanding too much in different dimentions to get a feel for if the +p+ cartridge is pushing beyond what your gun should be handling.

Often, the small ballistic advantage of a +p+ over a regular +p or even a standard heavy-for-caliber loading is offset by the increased rapport, muzzle flip, and flash is also produces.

Was wondering if +p ammo in mp9c is safe to shoot? I did search but didn't see anything with 2 searches I did. I did look at owners manual and it says this; (copied from manual) “Plus-P” (+P) ammunition generates pressures in excess of the pressures associated with standard ammunition. Such pressures may affect the wear characteristics or exceed the margin of safe- ty. Use of “Plus-P” ammunition may result in the need for more frequent service."
I was just wondering found a couple boxes of Winchester PDX1 defender yesterday at local Wally World and was going to shoot a few but then use it for carry ammo.
Thanks for your assistance in advance
I have fired a couple boxes of the +P and have had no issues, didn't even really notice a difference in kick between my 115 grain frankly.... maybe just a tad. At $1 a shot I don't feel like testing how many it will shoot, but the manual doesn't say not to use them. It does say not to shoot +p+, but it doesn't say not to shoot +p.

Been shooting +p for years in my MPs, HKs and Glocks. No problems. I shoot on avg of one box of +p per range session
