+P loads in a J frame?

Sir, can your provide some direction as to where this table can be found?

The current S&W manual can be downloaded as a PDF from the S&W web site. It no longer contains the chart included in earlier versions, however it does state on page 11 that +P ammunition should NOT be used in K-frame revolvers manufactured prior to 1958. +P can be used in "numbered" model K-frames.

The chart included in earlier versions of the manual only indicated standard pressure .38 special ammunition as suitable for use in J-frames, regardless of when they were manufactured.

These tables are in the manual that came with a 37-2 that I bought
back in the early to mid 90s. The back page says it was revised in 92
so the information is relatively recent when considering the older
model revolvers.

Thank you all for your valuable information. I've been doing my research, and it seems most agree that a few cartridges + P should not cause problems. However, the table provided by alwslate is very clear and says that +P should not be used in a model 49. Since yesterday I made my inquiry direct to S & W. As soon as they answer me, I share the information.

After more than two weeks, S&W has not answered to my question. However, I've been searching on the net, and my cartridges are not +P. As the picture shows, they are marked: R . P 38 SPL which in fact means Remington Peters 38 spl, so they are not +P. I read that this ammo is from the 60's or 70's. With 158 grains SWC. As soon as I have my transportation license I am going to the range to test some, and I will tell you how reliable they are. Regards.

My experience has been that S&W rarely answers emails. I'm not sure why they even list an email address. Give the a call.

The cartridges in your photos do not look like the R-P 158 SWC that I purchased back in the 70's or some that I purchased a couple of years ago. They all had nickle plated cases and were cannelured. Is it possible that your ammo is remanufactured ammunition or handloads?

The gurus at my LGS assured me +P was OK in my Model 49. I shoot standard issue 38spl at the range, +P for EDC.

Yours seems new, and mine is too old. I don't know, maybe as you say is remanufactured or reloaded. Or just maybe that is what in that year looks like.
