My father recently gave me a s&w 60-9. I would like to carry this gun with .357 magnum loads. The stock grips that are on it are a little too small for me, as I have large hands with long fingers. I have been looking at acquiring a set of Pachmayr Compacs. I'm wondering if any members here have any experience with the Pachmayr Compacs and j-frame snubs. I am specifically interested in peoples thoughts on .357 recoil with these grips, as well as thoughts on their concealability. Be advised, I have posted this on a couple of other forums within this site. Thanks in advance. :wavey:

They're about as good as it gets for dampening recoil. With a covered back strap, and a relatively large diameter to put the recoil over a broader area, and made of rubber. Only cautions would be, if you try to pocket carry they may make the package too big and "sticky" with those grips? Or "print" when trying to drape clothing over them. Fine grips! If I didn't pocket carry mine often, I'd put my pair back on my Centennial.

I put them on the 637 .38 Airweight and yes, they make shooting more comfortable but I found them to be bulky for concealment so I swapped them out again.

Same situation with me as the others have expressed. I pocket carry my 34 year old Model 60 J frame and agree that the Compaq grips dampen recoil. However, after 2 months I resorted back to my original and still favorite set up.....original S&W wooden stocks with Tyler T Grip. The Compaq grips are just far too bulky for pocket carry and make the draw very difficult given the size as well as the tackiness of the rubber that tends to stick to the inner pocket. Sometimes it's just hard to beat the original.

Well then that's two things your better than I at Barb!
Photography and being able to figure out how to operate a scanner and get the picture anywhere but in my hand on paper!

Same answer as the rest. They work well, and they're too big for most use.

For me, the best compromise is a square butt, factory Magnas and a Tyler. Round butt, factory Magnas and a Tyler are second best, fine with a steel gun, but not good enough for an Airweight.

People with larger hands may not find my choices to be the best.

I like the way they feel on K-frames for sure....don't know about J-frames, never tried 'em on those.

They feel and handle really good.
Er...but I can't conceal them without an undershirt because the rubber breaks my skin out in a rash.
(either that or cleaning chemical residue attatched to them)
And I don't particularly have sensitive skin.
