Howdy from Iowa!

Just picked up a Model 639 a couple of weeks ago, and had a question on replacing the original wood grips with Pachmayr grips (yes, I am keeping the original grips, but I like the older rubber grips, too.) I have read that the older grips fit better than the newer ones available today, so I was wondering if there is a definite way to tell older grips from newer production?

Recently put new production Pachies on a 639. They fit just fine. Maybe even better than the old production, which in my experience could be very tight.

Well, I got deals on two of the non-medallion, older grips....One was "shinier" than the other, which seemed to have a little more grey in its coloring....The shiner one came with an old, red/white Pachmyr box, but it didn't fit quite as well as the other....I guess it really depends on the particular grip, sometimes....I also have a Model 13-2 that came with the "greyer" grips, and they fit nicely on it. Thank you for your input! Guess I just needed to try a couple and hope for the best. I really like the look of the original wood grips, but the Pachmyrs do feel much better for sure, steady grip. Now I just need to dig through my holsters to see which ones fit it, best....Fortunately, I have a lot of holsters....😄
