Pachmayr pistol range box

Absolutely a Great find!...even decades ago those were pricey...but every self respecting bullseye shooter had one ( or more)

Mine came from an Army team shooter Maj Hank Byers. $500 for the whole thing had the scope on the lid and a hole .38? through one of the dividers in the tray. Oh and in the tray was an F.Bob Chow 1911 and an under 5,000 model 41. Some people just went crazy when they saw that box. It was so handy. Took 10 men and a small horse to lug it around.

Need a picture...........

I have a Gun-Ho box that I believe I have had for 30 years and acquired from Gil Hebard Guns. You would probably now say that it has character. It's probably another thing like my Griswold skillets and Pfaltzgraft dishes that would survive a missile strike on my house. But somehow over the years the box seems to have put on weight and I went to a soft range bag.

Pachmayr for the win!

Boy does that bring back memories! Back in the day you'd have your model 52, Python, model 17, Colt National Match, maybe a Hammerli all exposed for every one to ooh and ahhh at. Muffs, Eyi .22's 148 wadcutters, 158 semi wadcutters and of course the spotting scope. Oh and a brass bag to put the spent rounds for reloading.

Mine used to hold Colt Mid Range, Hi Standard Supermatic Citation and 1911 Match pistol and ammo. Mostly shoot S&W revolvers and 1911s these days.

Mine is a Gun-Ho exactly like SS336's. Bought in the early 90's from Gil Hebbard's. We called them "gun boxes." On the magnetic rectangular strip on the lid you stick your magazines. You place your scope on the aluminum pivotal bracket to adjust them to the shooters' height; that way you didn't have to bend over to look through the scope, something you usually did when shooting slow fire at 50 yds. Usually followed by a groan :-)))
Our (Lakeland Rifle & Pistol) Club always had a team to participate at the annual National Matches at Camp Perry, and at the annual National MidWinter Pistol Championships in Tampa. I shot in the last two down here, and in the Sunshine Games (see stickers on my box). Attached is also an old picture of a bullseye pistol shooter; notice the extended rib on his Model 1911…and the one hand shooting. No Glock action pistol shooting back, then :-))) It was all about precisiin.

I did have the original Pachayr case, which was passed on to me, but it kind of deteriorated on me. A good friend ( may he rest in peace ) of mine built this case and several others for club members. As time went by, I got older and it got heaver. We spent some good times and many Matches together.

My father had one, covered in alligator grain material. I was glad to inherit it - Until I had to carry it (loaded) from the car to the firing line. It really needed big wheels & a handle - or 2 wheel dolly. I kept dads B&L spotting scope & SOLD IT. For years I used my Leather Mailman's Shoulder Bag with pistol rugs, + tool pouch inside..
5 years ago I came across a small alligator grain suitcase, half the size of the Box I sold. When laid flat I had room to install a four gun foam pistol rack, leaving room for a my Zeiss Monocular, Magazines, & Ammo. IT is less top heavy, & I can carry it very easily - & it looks very professional. ALL Extra stuff goes in my Mail sack (extra ordinance, lunch, etc.)
>I'm Writing this - so those of you who don't have, & WANT the big box - won't be miserable with Envy. Careful What you wish for - & think OUTSIDE THE BOX for your needs..

This is my Gun-Ho Pistol Case. It opens from either side, holds five handguns and is almost twice the size of my Pachmayr. Being twice the size it ia almost as heavy empty and the Pachmayr is full. Would need one of my Grandsons along just to lift it onto the dolly and up to the bench!

I also have a Gun Ho box, with a Bushnell 20X scope in it. You can clearly see your hits at 25 yards and further. It mainly sits on the shelf now, I'm not capable of competing any longer. And, yes, it does get heavy with 2 guns and ammo etc.

Oh boy! Feels like old home week! i had the magnetic rack and the aluminum gizmo. Bushnell spotting scope (much later in life) I left out the High Standard Military, and the K-38. Used the Python for slow fire, then switched to the Smith for timed and rapid due to the shorter hammer pull. Chalk to outline your feet for natural point of aim. Pre loading the mags so you didn't get jittery. Remember men, the line can only go as fast as the slowest shooter. There was always that ONE guy who couldn't load the last few rounds in the mag, and we waited and waited. Anybody else remember? Austin Behlert would be at the match fine tuning and fixing problems.
