Pachmayr vs Hogue vs Pachmayr

I am looking to put a rubber grip on my Model 36. I want something that covers the backstrap, will dampen recoil to a moderate degree and will allow a person with medium-sized hands to get a three-fingered grip. I want to do this without sticking something on there that looks like it belongs on an X-frame, but I have no trouble concealing something the size of the Hogue Monogrip (not bantam).

I used a Hogue monogrip once on another small frame revolver and it was OK. I have no experience with Pachmayrs and am wondering if their gripper or compac would be a better choice.

Unfortunately, I have not seen the Pachmayrs in any of our stores here, or I would just give 'em a whirl.

I just got a set last month, not my first J-frame compacs but the first at that price! You'll love them. I prefer them a lot over hogue (imo)...

The Pachmayr Compac sounds like it's just what you want. I have one on my sq.butt 37.

I really like the Compac on J-frames. Better than anything else that I've tried, although the discontinued Uncle Mike's
are also good, although longer. I do think there is some reduction in felt recoil, and better control.

But the slightly tacky surface will sometimes catch a little on clothing, depending on how the gun is worn.

Just to be clear -- can you folks get your pinky on the grip?

yes, absolutely, that's what goes into the dimple at the bottom of the compacs (it's for your pinky)

I have a Pachmayr grips on my 66-1 2 1/2'' BBL and love them. My 586 6'' BBL came with Uncle Mike grips-they are much harder than Pachmayrs and I dont like them.

Wow! Those grips from Northridge look like leftovers from 1984 by the appearance of the box. For $5, I'll give it a spin!

I've used both and didn't like either one. Then I tried Uncle Mike's grips and eventually replaced all the old Pacs and Hogues I had.

Couldn't find any locally, so had to buy them mail oder.

I really like the Pachmayr Grippers on my M-60. I shoot full-house .357 loads in it and it is much more comfortable than the Compacs on my Centennial with .38+P+ loads.

I'm real pleased w/ the set I got last month from them, and it comes w/ that cardboard box...plus, the screw is only visable from the side with the screw head (the other side is flush rubber). They're top notch.
