Someone here uses that for their signature. I want to use the line in my newspaper column. If it's you or you know who it is I'd like to know the back story.

Paddle Your Own Canoe is a phrase that implies independence from others. The first known use is in the 1844 book The Settlers in Canada.

Paddle Your Own Canoe, is also a 2013 book by Nick Offerman.

With that said, I paddle my own canoe also. Literally and figuratively.

Thanks for the replies. I read the signature in the last few days but couldn't find the thread I was reading. Yesterday I noticed that some folks in my area had boarded up their windows and others had done nothing with varying amounts of preparedness in between. It hit me that the home and business owners were paddling their own canoes and that I could build a weekly column around the phrase.

All this can be yours, and more!!:D
