i've painted so many guns i've lost count and have never degreased them with anything but brake cleaner then blast it with the air compressor to get out any leftover carrier from the cleaner, wipe with dry rag and paint.
you are kinda getting carried away if you doing all that prep work for a rattle can paint job.
Nice work on these. With respect though, maybe the op doesn't want the entire rifle to look painted like yours do. I think he's going more for the look that the rifle was painted / coated before assembly, more for a specific overall appearance than a sort of camo look like yours have. In any case, there's no harm in spending more time in the prep stage. There's nothing wrong with taking time, doing a thorough job, and learning a little about your rifle in the process.
