Don't know what the deal is, but my wife can't stand waffles and I love them, I don't like pancakes but she loves them. Waffles hold butter and syrup better, pancakes it all just slides off. Must be the eggs.

I like them both, only real difference is waffle batter requires more oil.
I use older waffle irons with uncoated grids, seasoning them properly is No Big Deal, Jeff Smith, The Frugal Gourmet, said the newer coated "non-stick" grids didn't make for crisp waffles, he was right.

I meant to ask, everybody make waffle or pancake batter differently, besides the oil I usually just add a egg to the waffle batter.

pretty much same dough

Now if'n yer talking SOURDOUGH....pancakes by a MILE....

Like em both. pancakes are for breakfast with a couple of eggs. Waffles are for brunch with some in season melon or berries. Yes, lots of good real maple syrup and real butter. Sadly I can't have either on a regular basis any longer.

PANCAKE SANDWICH

I love a pancake sandwich served up on a late Sunday morning... Two cakes with two eggs over easy slipped between the cakes and a couple strips of bacon on the side... A cold glass of V8 juice to make my meds slide down easy and chase it all with a hot cup of coffee... Life is good at my house... Later, Dave :D

I like them both. Pancakes are just easier to prepare than waffles, but I'll never turn down either.

At our house, we always use real maple syrup. Now our granddaughter likes the imitation stuff, but for my wife and my self, on the best maple syrup will do.

What the heck? I can afford it now!

The only thing that comes close to sourdough hot cakes is beer hot cakes, with an over easy egg and a sausage patty. And my doc wonders why I can't lose weight. I still can't come close to what my dad used to eat, but I don't work as hard as he used to either.

I like both. What I don't like is cleaning the waffle iron.

Lately I've been making Krust-eze pancakes. They are so good & so easy (just add water) I just don't see the need for my fancy recipe anymore. I do add vanilla & almond extract tho...

Definitely waffles.... with plenty of maple syrup and honey. Sometimes with strawberry topping too.

Between the eggs thread, and this one, plus the smooth shot of Jack Daniel's sippin' whiskey I just had, I'm downright hungry, but it's too late for me to get up and cook. Y'all are killin' me.

:D That is like the old nursery rhyme "Jack Sprat". It goes like this.

Jack Sprat he ate no fat his wife she ate no lean betwixt the two they licked the platter clean.

Three pancakes w/ real maple syrup or good honey, two eggs over light on the side w/ a slab of good ole country ham. Nothing like Cracker Barrels blackberry pancakes. Good old thick Belgian waffle with either real maple syrup and real butter or maybe honey or blackbery compote w/sausage or C. Ham on the side.

....according to my son, with 2.7 years of experience:

Pancakes, with actual, real, no foolin' maple syrup.

Either one is fine w me, both are just an excuse to eat up that maple syrup!

WAFFLES!!!!

Or at least I used to. They don't make the low carb list... :(

And if it could be made using Bisquick then I have probably done it. Mom never made them from scratch but from the box I used to gobble them up and ask for more. I even used to add the butter and syrup, slap on a sausage or bacon add an egg and cover the top with another waffle for an AMAZING breakfast sandwich. Mmmmm... My inner fat guy is screeming to be unleashed...

Pancakes or Waffles? I don't know. Maybe if someone fixed me a big plate of each, with lots of butter and real maple syrup, and a couple of eggs and some bacon, I'd be able to tell you.

That's where you are going wrong - we use a 40+ year old waffle iron (still has the original fabric-wrapped cord). Spray it with oil, plug it in, wait 15 min to heat up (the hardest part is waiting) and pour on the batter. Afterwards, when cool, put a paper towel between the iron and put away.

Crispy waffles smothered with butter & syrup....what could be better...:D:D
