I have a K-22 on the way that could use a different side plate. The one on it has been bead blasted and reblued giving it a "textured" look which I'd rather not have. I thought about putting a WTB ad here but don't see many parts for sale in the classifieds. Where should I start looking for a decent 5 screw side plate?

eBay has listings for them - HOWEVER, they are definitely not drop in parts, and fitting is not something that just anyone can handle.

I agree with DWalt.

Is it the original sideplate...does the number stamped on the inside of it match the number in the yoke joint when cylinder is swung open? If it does, I'd keep it and send the gun to Fords to have the sideplate re-blued to match your gun. If the logo is on your sideplate, he can re-stamp that also if needed.

If its just been blasted a good smith should be able to polish it out, and then it would still be numbers matching. Given the side plate it numbered. Id go that route as fitting up a new side plate may cost you as as much as the polish and re-blue, and you keep the pistol matching.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, folks. I was told by the seller that the side plate is not the original, but he admits he's no S&W expert and is going on what others have told him. I will look for a number under it when I pick-up the revolver. If it is original, I will re-think replacing it and consider the refinish option. Always nice to have choices.
