Recently I was able to score a very nice 19-3 2.5". The blueing is deep and flawless and the action is as sweet as I think it will get. I'm certainly not complaining, but, the hammer and trigger are polished stainless. Were these possibly swapped from a mod 66? I'm not an expert on these things but would like to know so I can appear just a little knowledgeable if anyone asks. I bought from an executor(sp) of an estate and he didn't have a clue. Ser#8K87xxx
Thanks for your help.

I would be leery, a model 19 should have a color case hardened hammer and trigger.. Is it possible the gun is re-blued and the original mammer and trigger were polished? Only the early stainless revolvers had stainless hammer and triggers - due to problems S&W switched to flash chromed carbon steel hammers and Triggers in the stainless guns. The hammers and triggers had a more matte finish and were not polished so as I stated earlier, I would suspect a polished in the white hammer etc.

The parts have probably been polished. Some people just do not like the looks of case-hardened parts. They complain about the "uneven" appearance.

It is hard to imagine someone changing to SS parts. Usually, armorers went the other way, taking out SS hammers and triggers and putting in carbon steel parts. The only time I have ever seen it go this way was when an armorer didn't have replacement case-hardened parts and just used what he had to get the gun back in service.

In any case, if the gun is in good repair, shows no signs of mechanical issues (push-off, for example), and you like the looks of it, everyone is happy! :)

My nickeled 19-3 was back to S&W for repair, the hammer and trigger as well as the hand and bolt were replaced. As you can see in the pic both the hammer and trigger are flash chromed. Im told that S&W is out of the case colored parts. Perhaps your 19-3 shared a simular fate?
