Pawnshopping - New pix up!

I picked up a very nice 29-3 at a pawn shop in englewood with box etc for a very good price. There aren't any pawnshops in my area of town so I dont get into them very often.

I know the feeling. went to a local gun store just to pick up some cleaning suppplies, walked out with a shotgun. went back about 2 weeks later looking for some ammo, walked out withmy M&P40 shield. wife said i can't go in that store anymore.

I promised pix of the 65-2 once I pardoned it from pawn jail.

Sorry that this has taken so long. I got distracted by the 625 Model of 1988 5" .45 ACP so the 65-2 had to sit in pawn longer than I wanted.

Anyway here it is! Pinned and recessed goodness. :D

Nice family photo. I cannot be 100% certain, but it appears your new Model 65 has a pinned in front sight. If so, you can easily change out the front sight blade if you need something with higher visibility. As an example, here is a photo of my Model 64-3 with a Hi-Viz fiberoptic front sight. I'm also including photos of my Model 65-3 and Model 13-3. I'm also a fan of the 3.0 inch barreled K-frames.

Regards,

Dave

Double-O-Dave,

Yes the 65-2 and the 65-5 have pinned on front sights. Hard to tell if the Aussie 10-5 we have or the 13-3 are pinned on.

Thanks for alerting me to this! Was thinking that a black front sight with a red insert like the Model 60 pro that a friend has would be great. The Model 65-5 is already a 'Workin Gun.' Its my primary CC piece and always gets carried on mtn lion duty in the mountains here. Trying to decide on what to do with the 65-2. Safe queen or duty gun?

The 10-5 is at the Performance Center now getting the master revolver action package and a standard polish re blue. Upon return it gets a set of rosewood Spegel extended boot grips.

The 13 will get the same treatment except for a set of round butt extended grips in cocobolo. Thought about asking the PC to cut the front sights for red ramps but decided to leave them alone.

I like the Bianchi Lightning grips on your 3" 65! Turns it into 3" K frame bodyguard.

Well, walked into the same pawnshop today where I scored the 3" 65-2.

I had put a nice Rossi .357 carbine on layaway to go with the revolvers I have and was there to pick it up. While filling out the 4473, the manager comes up to me and says "You are a good customer - I have several layaways that were just forfeited back due to non payment. Some are Smith and Wessons. Are you interested?"

Well, I'm always interested at looking at guns so I said "Sure Ill take a look at them." Well he goes to a cart behind the register and brings over 2 handguns. A 4" 686-1 with a price tag of $550 and a 3913 9mm automatic with a price of $400.

I check out the guns and they are both in very nice shooter condition without boxes or papers. I had never really looked at a 3913 before and liked it. So I asked what the bottom line on the guns were. He said "I really don't want them back on the shelf. I'm sitting on too many guns right now. You can have them for what was owed on the layaway." $335 for the 686 and $265 for the 3913! Merry Christmas to me!

Out comes the debit card for the down payment and the guns go to the back of the shop.... Pics when they are released from Pawn Jail. :D

Hey, sometimes you are forced to buy a Smith.

Good find on the 65. I came across a no dash 4" 686 a couple years ago for $375 w/ orig box and grips. Sometimes you just gotta go for it.

Double o dave, how do you like that Bianchi Lightning?
Will it work with an adjustable sight K or is it only for fixed sights?
I'd like to have one on my 66 2.5".

Such a deal! :)

Where's the pics, nice catch. Larry

From the post: Pics when they are released from Pawn Jail.

They are on layaway. Great thing about this pawnshop is they take 10% down and give you five months to pay. I had just picked up the .357 lever action carbine so I am broke. Had enough to pay the down payment but not enough to purchase outright. Think I would have sold blood plasma for the down payment if necessary.

Moonlighted as a security guard last weekend to help pay for them. They were bargains but the $600 has to come from somewhere. :)

Can't wait to see what your enabler comes up with next!!
Kind of like Pawn Stars in reverse.

If you are still feeling a little wheezy in the morning, I suggest you find another pawn shop to haunt for an hour or so!

Hey Jeep, I am going to get a lottery ticket tonight, will you pick my numbers? With your luck I have a good shot! LOL. Congratulations on your finds.

Jaymo:

As you know, the Bianchi Lightning grips are no longer made, but come up for sale fairly often on flea bay. They generally go for around $55.00 unless some lunatic runs the price up. To my knowledge, they will work on any round butt K-frame S&W revolver. All of my K-frames are round butts, else I'd check if a square butt would work on it as well. I really enjoy mine on my 3.0 inch barreled Model 64. As you can see from the photos in my original post, it effectively turns it into a larger Model 649. I wish Bianchi or someone else would begin producing these grips again. I'd really like to see a set made in some kind of nice wood - boy, wouldn't those look awesome?

Regards,

Dave

oh boy!

Those picture are enough to get me out of the recliner! I am going out in the snow and over to the lgs to see what is on offer.

I'm outta here.
Joe

ps: yea I got the sickness.

Yup: they know I will be coming around several times a month.

Hi! My name is JeepinSoldier and I have a firearms addiction. :)

Problem is I have no intention of being cured!

That shop has a list of guns I am still on the hunt for, and they also keep dangling new ones I cannot resist like the 3913.

They knew I was looking for a decent 686. I had purchased one new in the late 80's and foolishly sold it off because I still had my Model 19.

I have the rossi great shooter and a lot of fun with the .38's

Thought it would be a good compliment. I had been looking at the Winchester Trappers in .357.

Looking online showed that they go for around $800 to $1,000+ when you can find them and in some reviews owners said that sometimes they jammed with .38 Special.

I saw the Rossi in the shop and did not buy it at first. After researching online I found that people liked them and that most of them fed .38 Special just fine. It was still there when I went back so I bought it. $300 - $30 down and five months to pay.

Brought it home, cleaned it up and it seems like a great gun. Loaded it with my .38 reloads and kept it pointed in a safe direction in the basement. 10 .38's levered thru the action fast and smooth as butter. Cant wait to get it out and shoot it! Don't know if a pic of it is appropriate here.

OK to shoot lead .38's or do lead bullets gunk them up?

OK - here are the 686-1 and 3913. Worth the wait!

Seems the 686 has a slight endshake problem as I'm discussing in the Smithing section but for what I paid looks like an easy and inexpensive fix. It has the 'M' stamp.

3913 already has the Hoge grips and feels Purrrrrrfect in the hand. Two of Smith's best!

Also impulse bought a nice 457 w/box and papers at another LGS last weekend. Ill post that one in the auto section.
