I see a lot of folks who take PayPal on the Classified Forum.

The following is a heads up.

I know a guy who used PayPal often for his buying and selling. He always used Friend & Family.

PayPal software is able to filter Friends & Family and find people who are buying and selling all over the country frequently. PayPal considers this to be "business" and not really friends and family. I have no idea what the final straw criteria is.

The guy I know was selling mostly reloading stuff, bullets & cases and a few guns mostly on Gun Broker. PayPal considered him to be a business.

He is now Banned for Life on PayPal.
 
Oddly enough, “friends and family” is meant for friends and family.

Using it as business to avoid fees is a good way to get banned, as your friend found out.

This doesn’t really budge my outrage meter.

I use PayPal all the time.
 
I cancelled my PayPal account when they decided they were going to fine members for saying things that PayPal didn't like. That wasn't their exact words but it's what they meant. They backed off from that because of all the feedback but it really shows just how politically motivated they are.

I've been on EbAY since 2003 and Ive bought a lot of gun parts off there in 20 yrs. In 2004 they decided to honor the then recently defunct AW ban of 1994. No more 10+ magazines and probably anything that looked like an AW part. In the last 4-5 yrs Ebay has all but eliminated anything labeled as a part for an AR15.. 10rd or less mags still there, COLT and S&W parts, grips and barrels for anything you can imagine. I've used Paypal exclusively for Ebay purchases and Friends and Family to xfer cash to FRIENDS and FAMILY like the rules say. I'm a life NRA member and don't feel traitorous using Ebay or Paypal. Sorry.

When you use PayPal you have the option of sending money to someone you declare as "Friends and Family", where there are no fees. This is compared to a business transaction on PayPal where the recipient has to pay a small fee to receive the money.

What PayPal is doing is simply policing this policy the only way they can (crunching data) because there are too many people doing business via the "Friends and Family" exception to avoid the fees. In a technical sense, these people are stealing from PayPal - not paying for a business service that they are using - and PayPal is simply doing loss prevention.

If anyone doesn't like how PayPal operates or their fees then they are free to take their business to another electronic money transfer service such as Zelle, etc. - but it hardly seems fair to complain that a business is preventing theft of their services and holding people accountable to the rules they agreed to when they signed up.

When you get banned from paypal any balance you have will automatically be forfeited to paypal.

Ya know, can't I just send a check, you whoever waits for it to clear, then sends me the merchandise? (I always wanted to use the term "merchandise"). We're being forced into instant, if not sooner, delivery of our "merchandise." (I love that...think Lethal Weapon w/Mel & Danny). I suppose a USPS money order for the "merchandise" is a little quicker.
 
I have long had a PayPal account. I use it infrequently but I use it nonetheless. If it is good enough for the gorilla it is good enough for me.

Besides, If I eschewed products and services from companies that weren't gun friendly I would be living in a cave existing on condensation and mushrooms.

My credit Union no longer sells or cashes money orders. My Post Office very rarely cashes a money order over 200.00 dollars,and thats if it has enough cash in the drawer.

Also if a PO money order gets lost its a long process before it gets resolved.

At this point I would rather have a Certified check or a personal check. Paypal is just easier sometimes.

I've always been fine with personal checks when selling something. If an established member, I don't even wait for it to get here before shipping.

But, I appreciate the convenience of PayPal, Zelle, etc., when I am buying something and the seller prefers it, not knowing me personally.

I think these new app/send bux apps are a useful convenience.

WRONG!. Long ago, PayPal's legal team recommended it not be used for firearm/ammo purchases FOR LIABILITY REASONS. PayPal still allows for most gun parts to be eligible and to be used for MANY gun related items/activities as is evident by this forum and even ebay itself.

Just because an organization limits it's liabilities doesn't make it anti-gun!

I would agree IF, but when a company will let you use it's services to buy any one of literally thousands of gun parts and firearm related items listed online as well make donations to firearm related organizations, you certainly cannot say they look and quack like a duck.

Unless you have some really strange looking ducks... :rolleyes:
 
I've used PayPal for over 15 years now, mostly for EBay purchases but prefer it whenever possible. I view it as an extra line of defense/protection when it comes to internet purchases and it came through for me last year when I was scammed by an ad pretending to be from Wayfair. PP refunded me with a month.

Family and Friends makes the sender pay the fee, not the receiver. Doesn't matter what the purchase is for. If they want to put such policies in place people just need to stop using it. I still have it as a last resort.
