I have a chance to purchase a pre-lock 627, 8 shot, five inch. It is non-fluted, gold bead front sight, with the slab sided barrel. I don't know what's a fair price for it. It looks to have a low round count and cones with the box and paperwork. Any help or experience with this would be appreciated.

Pics always help but on a low-mileage model as you've described it's easier. I'm no expert but seems prices are high and all over the place. Without checking standard catalog, I'm assuming a -3???
I know of a 627-3 5" fluted with heavy full lug barrel and 2 comps (muzzle devices) that brought $2300 on GB last year.
ETA:
I know not much help but what is asking price?

Unfortunately, a friend made arrangements to have it held for me until I get home from vacation at the end of the month. I have been sent one photo and his description, so I'm going from that. It is certainly pre-lock, which I can see in the photo, non-fluted and gold bead front. The slab side of the barrel says "performance center" and the performance center logo is under the thumb piece. The barrel is not the full underlug like say a 610, and not the massively heavy barrel with compensator as I've seen in some other models. The asking price is $750.00, which I think is really good for a pre-lock PC gun...but honestly I'm just guessing as I've never been around one before. I'm usually into older stuff, but the eight shot sounds kind of fun for shooting plates and such. So sorry, no idea of the SKU or much else.

Do you seriously need help figuring this out, or are you just letting us know you found a desirable gun with a "buy immediately" price tag?

$750 huh???
Perhaps you can PM me the seller's contact info and I can check it out. ;)
Seriously, if it's on hold for you, I'd check on it ASAP. And if you trusts your friends ability to grade the gun and/or provide more pics, I'd be tempted to buy sight unseen. Keep us posted...

No, I thought it was a good price. My main question is I haven't seen one with an unfluted cylinder in anything but the short barrel versions. I think the gun is legit, but was wondering if anyone would have concern within it being unfluted. I have committed to buy it based on the photo and my friend's description. I'm pleased it is pre-lock more than anything. My questions have to do more the configuration than anything. Like I said, I on vacation and away from my reference material to know if it's "right" or not. I wasn't sure when they started building 8 shot 627's, whether there were some pre-lock ones built or not...and with an unfluted cylinder in 5 inch. I buying it, hoping it is right and was looking for some help in verifying that.

627 5" 8 shot n No Lock

Probably looks like this one, which is my 627-3 (Which I shamelessly take every opportunity to show:D). This version has the newer frame, non serrated tangs, mim hammer, etc.

The 627-2 is not a PC gun.

It could also be the "627PC", which preceded the -3, is Performance Center, and not sure about the MIM (no mention of that in catalog).

Either way, the 627's are really great guns, and the no lock versions have higher values.

PS, I would agree with Jughed's starting point of $1500. I missed out on the 627PC on this site a few months ago for $1400, & in 2017 at -3 sold here for $1200!

As described (and referencing a very thorough article by 627 collector and member, mokuloa), it may be Product code 170116. Those have a "BDM" serial # prefix.
Regardless, ANY pre-lock 8 shot PC 627 in good condition is easily worth at least double what the seller is asking for that one.

This 627PC was originally a "Hunter" with a weighted barrel (LHV prefix), but a previous owner replaced it with a later 'slab side' barrel. Still a nice revolver and very fun to shoot.

Gun is correct and rare

You have a shot at a very desirable gun, it is likely correct, regardless, even if put together its a deal, buy it fast before someone makes your guy a way better offer, it happens. The one pictured is a 627-PC, shipped April 1998. Product Code 170116. I paid way more for this one many years ago. When you have it please share the serial number with me via PM for my data base on 627s.

The one Mokuloa posted is exactly what I'm looking at in the photo posted. I have committed to buying it and when I return I will post more info including the serial number prefix etc. Thanks to everyone for the help, my questions have been answered. That's what makes this forum great!

Good news. Please show it off when you get it...and buy a lottery ticket as well.

For comparison sake I just bought a 627-5 5" Performance center gun on Gun Broker for 725 + 25 shipping + 20 transfer so I'll have $770 in it and mine has the lock. I wanted an 8 shot 5" just to have.

I think I got an ok deal but I was the only bidder and got it for opening bid price so apparently I'm the only one who thinks it was worth that much.

Don't care. Market on revolvers is pretty soft right now but that's normally when to buy. This time may be different is what they say in the stock market but up til now the trend is always up long term.

Here's a link to mine.

Congrats, I'd say that's more than a fair deal on that gun. Funny that when I looked at the GB ad, the seller makes every effort to conceal that it has the internal frame lock. You got every camera angle except the uninterrupted left side view.
