Pearce Grip Now Making Extension for M&P Shields

I think I like the Pearce extension better than the NDZ for my hand shape and size. . . . . I have fingers like bratwursts, so this may or may not reflect your experience.

I got my Pearce extensions today. Here are comparrison photos in my large hand of the NDZ and the Pearce extensions on both the 7-rd and 8-rd mags. [NDZ is on the left and the Pearce is on the right.

I should note that I now have a Lasermax unit on the Shield and that it adds a small, but noticeable thickness to the trigger guard at the grip area. This reduces the length of grip just enough to make a difference in the effectiveness of the extensions. The Pearce grip on the 7-rd mag does work OK with my fingers, but I could wish the Lasermax unit was designed like the LaserLyte unit that does not extend all the way along the trigger guard to the grip.

SIDE NOTE:
I tried the LaseLyte on my Shield for just that reason but did not care for the feel and of the on/off button. Also, the switch was defective out of the box, so I returned it to Optics Planet and got the Lasermax instead. I had a Lasermax on a Ruger LC9 that I had and on that installation, I trimmed back the portion of the unit that extended under and along the trigger guard. This did not change the security of the installation at all and gave me back that 1/16" to 1/8" of grip length.

The case of the Lasermax for the Shield is heavily textured right where your grip fingers contact it and I can see that it will be an irritation. I will probably cut down this Lasermax too.

Ordered two of them yesterday. They look great from the pictures. I really like my NDZ one as well though.

I'm glad that I waited for the Pearce extension before getting the NDZ. The Pearce is very well made and perfect for my needs.

My Lasermax was really digging into my middle finger right in front of the grip. I took the fine polishing wheel of my Dremel and ground all that texture off. Didn't cut own the length of the piece at all, just smoothed off the surface.

I used a very small burr tip on a Dremel Tool to route out a shallow depression and then applied the paint (Testors type) using a sharp point to fill the depression. It wasn't a toothpick but that would work just as well. The dot got a bit larger than I originally intended it to be as I was chasing perfection of the roundness.

I created the depression to allow me to use the edges to constrain the paint and to also allow some thickness to the paint while still having the surface of the paint level with the surrounding surface. I also did a green bar that shows when the safety is on.

I decided to do the red/green stuff because I have a Ruger SR22P that also has a safety, but it works in the opposite direction so I didn't want there to be any confusion about whether the Shield safety was on or off.

I seldom have the safety on when I am carrying - this has become my EDC - but I am inclined to use it when I am using my SmartCarry holster - considering where the business end is pointing when it is being drawn. :(

Here are pictures with the safety on and with it off:

Just came across this... excellent work. Going to copy your idea.
