Penguin Gun Thread

Because penguin stew beats drawing straws to see who you eat first (aka "the law of the sea", and yes, to be legal, you do have to draw lots...), if you're stuck at the South Pole and run out of Spam. In the days when polar exploration was still in the realm of manly men with craggy beards and chiseled features (and not dirty hippies), penguin meat was recognized as a useful food source.

Of course penguins can be found other than at the Pole. The first English language accounts, and recipes for penguins, came from sailors who were on Drake's circumnavigation (if any of Magellan's men ate penguins, those recipes would have been in Portugese or Italian). Presumably if any were shot, matchlocks were used, but I believe that they simply clubbed them. Descriptions of what the meat tasted like can be found in memoirs of that voyage.

I quess I shouldn't plan to go to where penguins abound. I'm afraid my 9mm's and .223's would just bounce off those beasts......B.

Kind of related thought here. Are bi-sexual polar bears bi-polar? I was wondering about that on the way home from work. It's a long drive.

I have a long drive almost every day and I've never wondered about that.

I would think that a .45-70 should suffice. Now, what works best on seals?

After the first shot, they will scatter and likely head for the water. You will of course pursue, and at that point must be armed with a Glock, as they will continue to operate indefinitely underwater, or at least that's what the punk behind the counter told me once. Barring that, spear gun.

I've heard they travel in large gangs and their colors are black & white. I would suggest an AK-47 with a drum magazine, and a good K-Bar if the action gets too close.
