Over the weekend on Gunbroker the LGS auctioned off two sets of primers. The first were 2 brick boxes of CCI Magnum Large Rifle Primers No.250 and got $416.51 + shipping for them. They also auctioned off 4 brick boxes of Small Pistol primers for $325.15 + shipping. Are people crazy? Who pays that kind of money for primers?

Last time I bought primers was Federal Gold Medal Match 205M, 210M, & 215M for $37.00/1000 by the case of 5000. I bought around 10 cases. The Winchester WSP, WLP, & WLR were in the $26.00/1000 by the 5000. I bought 3 cases each of WSP & WLP. Prices have increased since then.

We all bought them much cheaper a few years ago, but I think everyone is referring to today's prices.

The small pistol is about what they are going for at the LGS's where I am. Actually, $81 per M is a reasonable price right now. No one is paying that much for large rifle but that is because they are not available at any price. If you need primers your options are to pay the price or don't buy them. I think we will be in this boat with the large rifle and pistol until the Ukraine thing winds down, whenever that might be.

And I though my LGS was crazy for having $120-$170 on primers. You can get them online much cheaper.

I'm not a reloader. So forgive my ignorance. If you have all the equipment and only have to buy casings, primers, powder, bullet etc how much can u load a box of 50 target grade 9mm for?

9mm doesn't really represent the value of reloading, it's about a wash. That said, when shortages come around the reloader usually has about a years worth of supplies on hand. He's the one at the range shooting away. Reloading really starts to pay off for all the calibers that aren't considered main stream, stuff you just can't find any more. Oh, and for brass, I haven't paid for any of that for about 20 years. Got 9, 38, 45 out the wazoo. Others like 32-20 last a long time if you don't super hot. Plus it's just an enjoyable hobby for those that like making things with their hands.

9mm is about the only round that reloading is right about the cost of buying new. in the $10 to $12 range per 50 if you are buying cleaned, once fired brass. Now, if you factor in your labor, might not be worth it. Yes people will babble on about casting their own, but what about lead cost? labor to powder coat? cleaning range pick up brass? blah blah blah.

You get in to just about any other centerfire caliber, you start saving. .357 sig, 40, 10, 45acp, revolver loads, rifle, and especially those smaller revolver calibers in 32 for example. HUGE diffeence.

I paid 175.00/brick for a case of CCI magnum large rifle on GB some time ago, which are still not on store shelves at any price. As I predicted, I paid less than the current market price. Thanks for the update.

And I paid $14,000 for my first house with 3 bedrooms

On a more realistic note I picked up some small pistol primers (made in Italy) at Sportsman Warehouse last week for about $55/1000. So prices are coming down.

OK, this thread is nothing but a sounding board for complaints. It actually has nothing to do with reloading. We are done here...
