Perfomance Center - Trigger

Hi

I'm quite new to shooting. I visited a gun dealer today – and tried the trigger on a Model 627 Performance Center V-Comp and another 627 Performance Center (which didn't have the V-Comp option). I was a bit surprised since I thought the trigger would be much smoother/lighter when it was a Performance Center edition?

Has the quality of the performance center editions changed over time?

I must admit I'm quite interested in the guns.

Would a gunsmith be able to tune it so the trigger is more smooth/lighter – or is it waste of money?

The current production Performance Center revolvers I've handled have a different (better to me) trigger design, very slightly smoother pull, but not a noticably lighter pull.

Overall they are or should be great triggers out of the box.
Usually through use and some cleaning, they loosen up nicely.

That has been my experience with those triggers.

Any competent gunsmith can change the trigger/ but I consider those guns good value.

I have a PC 629 from a couple summers ago. It is one of the best DA triggers out of the box, I have ever felt.

ETA; I have a 28-2 that had a gunsmith action job, It was great, but the springs were cut. AT a S&W sponsored "Gun Cleaning" one of the factory revolver guy was working on that gun and didn't like the cut springs, so free of charge he installed a factory competition spring set and returned my cut springs. About 24 hours later, I reinstalled my set of cut springs, the factory set was poor! That was probably a fluke, but Stick with what actually works for you!

Virtually anybody can improve trigger pull via the installation of a "Spring Kit". (Miculek's are the best I know of----and rival any action jobs I've experienced.)

Any (ANY) trigger/hammer assembly which requires attention from a gunsmith was substandard to begin with.

Evaluating a trigger is much easier after it is operated 500 times.
Like a duck call, it needs use before final tuning.
You can complain about "it shouldn't be that way for what I paid" but that won't change the facts.

The D/A pull of my M642 PC is very smooth and a little over 9 lbs. That is pretty light compared to typical J-frame D/A pulls of 11-12+ lbs. Also, the trigger itself has a slightly curved face and is smooth chrome which is very comfortable. To me definitely worth the extra cost.

Last week at my LGS I compared a 642 and a 642PC that cost just under $100 more. There was no comparison as the PC model was far smoother, lighter, and polished. In fact, to my surprise, it rivaled my Kimber K6s.
That coupled with the better set of grips on the PC version made my decision a no brainer.
