Greetings Experts ;)

New guy here jumping in head first with some questions and issues!!!

I currently have a M&P Performance Center Shield in 9mm and a Performance Center Ported 9L. I just picked up the 9L on Friday and shot it for the first time today. I wish things went better...

The gun constantly was failing to feed rounds of three different ammos. Federal American Eagle, CCI Speer Gold Dot and some cheaper PMC Bronze... I realized that the rounds were getting stuck on the firing pin... Which led me to wonder if the pin should be protruding with the slide back... From what I can tell by researching and looking at my shield it seems that the pin is failing to retract... (Trying to attach to post didn't seem to work so sorry for the links)

So I'll be calling S&W tomorrow... needless to say I'm pretty disappointed... this thing wasn't cheap!!!

While looking the gun over I also noticed that the trigger seems to be "sloppy" compared to my shield... here's a side by side...

I'm wondering if this is correct or should I mention the trigger to S&W tomorrow as well..

Thanks in advance!

The firing pin should NEVER EVER be extended before a round is fully chambered. Because that is something that can convert your pistol to Open Bolt Full Auto operation and if I recall correctly possession of an unlicensed Machine Pistol is a Federal Felony worth up to 20 years and a 100K fine.

One really has to wonder how something this defective ever made it out of the Performance Center. These are supposed to be Premium models with a bit of extra attention paid to Quality Control. When you talk to S&W you may want to ask them if they are hiring the Blind to do the final inspection on the Performance Center models.

Agree on all points... I love my PC shield which is why I sprung for the 9L.... I never would have thought this would happen...

Honestly I don't even know if I'l trust the gun if they fix it... I may try for a replacement...

To give you some hope...I have a PC 9L and have not had an issue. I'm Sure Your new gun will be in tip top shape when it returns from S&W.

Thank you for the replies... The gun is at S&W so we'll see what they say... I'm disappointed to hear that the 9L trigger doesn't hold up to the Shield... Liking the Shield so much is a reason I bought its big brother....

My PC core 9mm had the same problem with the firing pin not retracing fully and the incoming round hanging up on the pin.

Also the trigger on mine "stunk". Another $160 for an Apex trigger assembly.

S&W fixed my problem with the striker and the turn a round was less than 2 weeks. They didn't help the trigger pull.

I reinstalled the Apex kit and now the trigger is good. Not great but good. Gun shoots well and hasn't missed a beat since coming back from S&W. Wish they would have built it right the first time.

I bought the ported model and the Trijicon "auto-adjust" red dot. The Trijicon doesn't play well with the flash from the ported barrel.

There are a lot of nice M39's and M59's out there. Why are you all messing with a Performance Center 9L. Smith appears to have been hiring blind employees for quite a while now. I guess some have gotten promoted to the PC division.

Cool your jets there scooter. If the gun goes full auto due to a malfunction, there's no crime. It's only a crime if he keeps it that way. Further, if it goes full auto because of a stuck firing pin, it's not a machine gun. It will empty the mag every time without pulling the trigger. No one would keep a gun in this condition.

mtv577,
I wish I had seen this before. I would have had you take the striker out of the striker channel first before sending it to S&W. Still, it won't hurt to have sent it back. They'll get it fixed up for you.
