Robert, you have some of the nicest goodies in PRK...

I just bought another Shorty 40. It is one of the black MK3's. I took both Shorty's to Bolsa Gunsmithing. One of them is being sent back to S&W for a refinishing, the other just needs some touch up work. I am having them re-do the black parts like the slide stop. I am also having them do a little bit of bead blasting.

I am salivating over that 945-40 in Culver City but I am in the house hunt now so I need to be mindful of my spending.

I am actually considering selling my 952-1. If I sell that, I might consider looking at the 945-40.

Here is a review of the 945-40...

Exiled,

The factory rep absolutely told me there were 130 made for South Sports.
He also said that he was around when they were made and remembered it well. It sounded like he had his eye on one.

ets ask around. Does anyone have one with the serial # higher than BAM00130 ?

They made some others with the BAM prefix, but were not blackened. Nice guns as well.

Retting iswhere I bought my 945-40. Nice gun, and nice shooting.

Is it south sports or sports south and did it used to be or still Henry's sports south. I bought mine at a dealer show Jan 04 Test fire date was Aug 03. I spent more that day than my friend that owned the shop.lol

I some times wonder how Limited Limited edition is. I have a spring field I need to post a picture of it is suppose to be a limited edition. 1911 Defender 2 tone W/comp.

Basically, a M-945 is the basic M-4506 frame and slide forgings made up to work like a 1911. You could sorta say it is a single-action-only M-4506 that has a (1911-style) grip safety and a (1911-style) frame-mounted thumb safety, but that would be short-selling it to the extreme.

Robert, since we both live in PRK, I decided to do a few pictures of the slide and firing pin block on the 945-1.

I circled the firing pin block in the photo. It is the round metal plunger on the right side of the slide. If our pistols had a magazine disconnect, then there would be a black plunger on the left side opposite the firing pin block.

So, if someone were to have a willing buyer on Gunbroker and wanted a 945-1 in 3.75" barrel in our state, they would need to have the buyer remove the slide and make sure that the firing pin block is there. It is my opinion that none of the 945's in 3.75" barrel were made without the firing pin block.

Martial,

I am from the second coming of the PRK. Mass.
You guys can have a lot more guns than we can. Compliancy rules here.

There is a fireing pin block on my 3 1/4" and my 5", but none on the 3 3/4" one.

I believe it is the dash 1 change. They are all just sweetness in steel.(and aluminum)

Interesting, so they did make some 945's without the firing pin block?

Interesting...

Now I am wondering how the 945-1 could be listed on our DOJ list?

I am beginning to think that my original assumption about the firearm on the list was right all along...

That assumption was that the 945-1 in 3.75" barrel actually didn't exist and that it is listed incorrectly.

I actually emailed the DOJ and told them that several months ago.

The reason I say that is because there were supposedly only 175 of these made in stainless/silver finish. If that is the case then the odds of production being stopped and changed during that run are miniscule which means that all of them are 945's.

Just one more reason why the stupid drop test shouldn't exist in California. Most people don't know that firearms manufacturers already drop their test their firearms. The only reason to have redundant testing is to infringe on everyone's constitutional rights.

I also own one of the BAM prefix 945-1's I looked for months trying to find one as I really liked the wavy serrations, and trigger variation. A member here turned me on to it in a shop near where he lived. I shoot it every week and absolutely love it. Ammo has been a problem to find lately here in the PRK, but I think it is a problem everywhere. Let us know how you like it when you actually get to fire it.

Bob,
#152
I've seen some SS ones in the low BAM numbers

Is it possible for 001-130 to be two tone frame and slide and 131-up two tone slide only?
Wonder if exiledviking's serial # is over 130.

Bob is the grip safety on yours polished on the back or just looks that way in photo. Mine is solid black Serial # is less than 100.

Is #152 two tone slide and frame or slide only?

Sooooo many Questions.

Mine is all black except for the flats.

Anything is possible with the serial numbers.

Maybe there were some palin SS ones to start the run of SNs and then the 130 came into being.

Then again, the guy at Smith may just have been puffing smoke. Who knows?
