I'm looking at sending my Model 29 Classic in for an action job. Can anyone comment on their experience with Performance Center action work? The single action pull isn't too bad, but the double action pull is bad. Heavy and not smooth at all. I called the Performance Center and they said their action jobs smooth the trigger but only lighten it by a pound or so.

I was hoping for a little more than a 1 pound reduction. Is there a good S&W revolver smith I should look at instead that might be able to get a little more out of the factory trigger than the factory might be willing to do? Thanks.

Not exactly addressing your question but I did recently send a Model 15 back for extensive work and it was returned with a short throw double action. I expect this was done in the Performance Center but I can't prove it. Anyway it has the smoothest double action I ever experienced on a S&W revolver. It is like one of the old Colts.

Sent in my 629-2 classical hunter years ago for the action job package offered and wow is all I can say never even fire it in single action double is so smooth.

I would agree with the above.

I have sent in two for the combat pistol package and both have come back with the smoothest triggers. The other work was very nice as well.

I had the Master Action Package done on my 66-8 last year and it was good and bad. The gun had a few issues from the factory like a canted sight and the roll mark on the shroud was not very well done. Typical Smith, I called and they emailed a shipping tag to get it fixed so I figured I'd have the action done while it was there to save on shipping.

The 66 was back in about a month and looked fabulous and the action was extremely smooth and well done. Took it to the range and found that it failed to set off the primers about half the time. Another quick call to Smith and another shipping tag and another month and the 66 is back and funny thing, the action is a little heavier. Go figure. They put in a bossed mainspring and a new strain screw that's a tad longer (old parts returned).

Gun is fine now and I'm slowly gaining confidence in it but to say it was a great experience is a bit of a stretch.

ACTION JOB

I highly recommend Dennis O. Reichard. He is located in Rochester Indiana. He is a master gunsmith. He has samples of his work in 49 of the 50 states. I had him perform his magic on three of my S&W revolver and they are fantastic!!!!! Type in Sand Burr Gun Ranch. and give him a call. You won't regret it!!!!

There is an advantage to having S&W do an action job the warranty stays intact. Someone else does it & something goes wrong you might start paying for shipping & who knows what else.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like an easy 4 hour drive to drop off a revolver or 2 for some work. Heck, it may turn into the entire lot if it's everything the members here rave about.

I've had S&W do some work on my stuff.

At the time, I was told that the Performance Center smiths do the work on customer requests like yours (and mine).

Times may be different today? Doesn't hurt to ask what kind of talent will be used to do the work you're commissioning.

So you know, I called S&W a few weeks ago to have some work done... it was a 10 week backlog, plus 2 to get the work done
