This is all April 1 thru 17. If anyone knows these sections of this small city of about 300,000, they know these areas aren't exactly the "Garden Spots" of the city.
Nobody was marching in the streets protesting the shootings. Our new mayor, Mr. Gainey, recently celebrated his 100th day in office. He also echoed the exact sentiments of the people who live in these sections of town: "Somethin's got to be done." Mr. Mayor Gainey lives in one of the above-mentioned parts of our city.
I'm not sure if this law has gone into the books yet, but police are being forbid to pull over vehicles for minor infractions such as expired inspection stickers (less than 2 months), expired registrations, bad lights, smell of reefer from a carload of citizens, tinted windows, etc. Reason being is that a certain group of people are getting caught with illegal drugs & guns in their cars and spending time in the 2nd Avenue Hotel until bond is posted. Sometimes, people run away and get caught...more charges. It's not fair to the criminals.
God help us all...

I heard one report that said the police did not need a 911 call to respond to the scene. They apparently have some kind of gunshot sensors scattered around town that can automatically direct them to the location of a shooting. Did I hear that correctly? If so, do you know anything about these sensors?

swsig, yes. They're called Shot Spotters. They're set up all over much of the city, especially the most problematic sections of town. Very accurate, they know the difference between fireworks and gunshots and very close to where the shot came from, plus how many. That's when the police find a bloody body laying nearby. There are cameras everywhere...almost.

Yes. Certain parts of Vegas are covered in sensors.

The CPD started using ShotSpotter in 2017. There are now a lot of "hot spot" neighborhoods and communities with them. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said the average is now a gunshot every two hours. He said that the system is so sophisticated that they can often determine caliber and pinpoint it within five yards. There are times when officers are en route before 911 gets a call.

Thankfully I don't live in a hot spot.

the shootings/ stabbings/ and robberies are on the burgh news stations daily. many boro's police forces have been shut down.

It will be fine. The City police chief often marches in solidarity with the various groups that would like to eliminate his position entirely.
There's now a push, in addition to ridding us of those "illegal" firearms, to crackdown on short-term rentals. That should fix it.

Nothing to see here. Move along...

Unfortunately, if you look at most States in the USA there are always troubled areas that crime runs rampant. These days the Police have their hands tied behind their backs and the less conservative and larger the city is, the worse the crime gets. I don't think this is an accident or by coincidence but what do I know?

In the early 1960's my F-I-L was a Columbus PD motor cycle cop. One weekday afternoon he responded to a bar fight call. When he entered, there were 3 or 4 customers and all was quite. Then some gorilla wrapped his arms around my F-I-L from behind. By the time The Paddy Wagon arrived, he had everything under control. He had the wagon haul in the bartender and customers also! When they got before the judge they protested they hadn't done anything! My F-I-L stood before the judge and said he was ambushed and not one of them had done a thing to warn or help him. They all got 3 days (in the work house) and $30 fine!

He never said what the judge gave the guy that attacked him. But The helmet in the nose, boot on the instep and black jack to the side of the head was just the beginning of his problems!

That was when the City Government, Courts and the Police were out to put an end to crime.

Ivan
