Picked up an M&P M2.0 Compact.

Quite nice! Nearly picked up mine at my lgs today, except they only had safety.models. had to order my 9mm w/o safety. This is gonna be a long 7-10 days.

Shoulda just taken that one while you had it in hand ;). The safety is ridiculously simple to remove, and from what I've read, S&W will just give you the little hole-filling plugs if you call and ask.

What I will say is that the Glock 19 finally has a formidable opponent. Likely, an opponent to finally take over it's spot.

The G19 had formidable opponents in the Walther P99as and PPQ, HKVP9, and even the XD, SD9VE and SR9. Yet, I routinely see people on the used markets trying to trade alll of these to get back into a Glock, but never the other way around.
I highly doubt that any S&W M&P is going to dethrone Glock. ;)

This gun is the first 15+1 gun I know of that is just as compact as Glock 19. If it proves itself to be just as reliable and shootable as the G19 and is less expensive it will be the strongest competition the G19 has ever had. It will probably not dethrone Glock but it will definately take a big portion of their sales.

Those other guns are all just as or more expensive than a Glock 19 and typically a little larger too. The M&P is less expensive and just became available. I would not be surprised to see the price go down a little more next year. While not as cheap as Glock magazines M&P magazines are less expensive than the other guns you mentioned. Those of us that hang out in gun forums are usually willing to pay a little more for a gun we can shoot better but we are outnumbered by people that just want a reliable gun for self defense and price is a big concern. Some police agencies are cost sensitive too.

I do not like the way my Glock 19 hits my thumb knuckle when I shoot it. I have rented and borrowed a few of the "Glock 19 killers" over the past few years and stayed with Glock for various reasons. The jury is still out but it is looking like the M&P compact I bought might finally replace it. The ergonomics are better and it looks like I can shoot it just as well or slightly better than the G19. But I am going to have to sand down the grip a little. At least I did not have to replace the sights like I did with the Glock.

The ones you mentioned, I have had and sold. They can not come close to measuring up to even a Glock 19, let alone this M2.0c.

Will it de-throne the 19? No. But it will have to share the throne.

I picked up two 2.0's last week. Put a few rounds thru one of them and I'm impressed. I'm sure most Glock lovers will remain loyal but I guess new shooters will have a hard time seeing why they should buy the G19 when the 2.0 is available for so much less money.

I think S&W did a good job with their new gun but I think it will eat into sales of their own FS series.

I agree. Those other products and/or their background companies could not compete with Glock and the G19.

I gotta say though, I have been carrying a G19 for many years, and this new compact 2.0 will at the least augment it once I have throughly tested it. I would not be surprised if it replaced it for me. S&W has a real winner in this pistol.

If I was a newbie trying out both, the M&P would likely win it for me for sure.

I love my new 2.0 compact. I'm glad that they redesigned the trigger bar and got rid of the trigger bar loop. The new design is nice and crisp. I like it so much that I won't be putting an Apex kit in like all my older "1.0" M&Ps. My question for you guys is this... anyone know of a grip adapter like the X Grip that would allow me to put a 2.0 15 round magazine in the older version 9c? I have an X Grip for a full size 17 rounder but it's too big for concealed carry. The 15 round mag is perfect any suggestions?

Have 4 Glocks. Bought the new Glock 19 Gen5 ( Had a Gen 4 19) and the Compact 2.0. Love them both. The Glock is about 3oz lighter and a hair thinner and shorter. The new trigger is great. The Compact 2.0 feels great in the hand and love the aggressive texture. The trigger is fine on the 2.0. I will leave both alone. The recoil on the 2.0 seemed a little less. Glock comes with 3 mags, 2.0 comes with two. Yes the Compact 2.0 may hurt sales of the 2.0 and the 9c. I would rather buy another Compact 2.0

I got the Compact 2.0 9mm today, can't wait to get to the range in the morning.

I also picked up a 2.0 9mm compact and I certainly wasn't actively looking for another 9. But once I handled it I had to have it! Glock hit the mark a long time ago with the G19 and there are many folks who think that size gun is the perfect balance of compromises. Smith has now come up with the best competition for the G19 thus far and I predict it will be S&W's new flagship gun. It may just impact the market similar to the way the Shield did a few years ago.

I've never owned a Glock for a few reasons but the biggest one being I like to buy American made. So I am thrilled with the 2.0 compact!

I have been a Glock 19 owner since 1992. I've gone through all of their generations looking for one that felt okay in my hand and shot reasonably well. As much as I respect the Glock for what it is it's never been a gun that conformed to me... I always had to try conforming to it. I've tried out all the recent competition as well, finally buying a Walther PPQ. While they all feel better they simply didn't fit the bill as a proper replacement for the tried and true Glock 19. This new M&P 2.0 Compact is the first G19-sized pistol I've tried that actually feels like an extension of my hand. It's rapidly becoming my favorite polymer pistol and has become my new EDC, as it does everything the G19 does while feeling MUCH better in the hand. I've got the manual safety model, although I did call S&W and get the frame plugs just in case I change my mind later and want to remove the safety lever. I also have the 9mm version, although if I get a chance to shoot a .40 sometime it might convince me to get back into that caliber again.

As for the 2.0 Compact being a "Glock 19 killer"... I have no doubt it'll eat into their sales but no way is anything going to unseat the reigning King of Compact Handguns no matter how good it is. The Glock 19 has a 30-year head start and is well-known even among people who know little about guns. Spare parts, holsters and magazines are everywhere, the aftermarket for it is huge, and Glock's marketing strategy is a juggernaut. Ask anyone in the street what a Smith & Wesson M&P pistol is and they'll say "Oh right... Dirty Harry's gun!". Unseating Glock will take years, and it will not only require making superior products but also aggressively marketing them as well. In addition it will require that Glock begin making some bad moves that chip away at its own reputation (the Gen5 models are a good start). At the moment the 2.0 Compact is nothing more than a worthwhile alternative to those who can't get used to Glocks and want something the same size but fits better in the hand. They've won over one convert here, but there's a lot more they have to win over before they can even become #2.

I agree with everything except I don't think it will take long to be an easy #2.

If S&W wants to become #2 all they really need to do is make their spare parts widely available. I think that's what's making a lot of would-be owners hold back. If you break or lose something on a Glock a replacement part is just a quick online order away.

Range time with new 2.0 Compact

I got my 2.0 Compact a couple of weeks ago from my local gun dealer. $500 out the door with tax. I just got to the range today. Wow do I like this gun! The trigger is good, reset is noticeably better than my .45 Shield. Recoil is super tame too. The picture is from my first set of shots at the range. The bottom two groups are the 2.0 Compact, top two are .45 Shield. Both at ten yards. BTW, I shot a mix of 112,124and 147 gr. Some HP, some FMJ, ate everythng without complaint. Just a perfect utility gun for me!

I have been to the range twice now with my new 2.0 Compact 9mm. I am still new to shooting handguns, but I am able to shoot this gun better than anything else I have shot. I wasn't even *that* embarrassed when it came time to pull the targets down, usually the holes are all over the place. This is an awesome gun.
