Today my waiting period was finally over. I got to take ownership of my m&p .40. I bought the range kit, I could not beat it for $30 more over just the gun. I had the tru glo tfo sights installed. I put 155 rounds thru it right away. It shipped bone dry no oil grease or anything. So after lubing the appropriate areas it was time to get use to my new friend. After loading up 3 mags with federal ammo, it was super easy thanks to the upula. So I burned thru 50 federal, then I fired 100 winchester white box, then I cycled 5 rounds of winchester pdx. This will be my self defense round.

No problems at all, needs lots of practice as this is my first but pleased with my results and loved the ease of use and smoothness of this gun. When I got home I cleaned and lubed gun and just familiarize myself with gun. One thing the take down tool is a royal pita to remove. I'm heading to another range tomorrow with some friends, will probably shoot another 200 or so. I'll post up some pics tomorrow

Congrats on the new 40. Instead of pulling the tool out of the grip use a pen or a paperclip or whatever is within reach to flip the deactivation lever. Another technique is to skip flipping the lever all together. With mag out and gun unloaded;
* lock slide back
* rotate takedown lever
* release slide and move forward
* when slide is forward in full battery position pull trigger
* continue moving slide forward and off frame.

Now start saving money for a progressive reloading press so you can shoot more.

If you remove the take down tool about 5 or 6 times it will come out a lot easier. I just went through that with my M&P Pro.

Here's another vote for using a paperclip instead of the takedown tool.

However, a trick that was taught to me by a S&W armor is to use the toe of the baseplate of the magazine to pry the tool out of the grip. Rotate it as usual and hoot the baseplate under the edge of the tool that is hanging over the inside of the grip and pry. Works remarkably well.

Here's my targets, set at 20 feet I'm sure pretty poor, to you veterans, but Im happy considering I'm a complete newb

Um,the bad guys are safe around you for now. :D
I'm just kidding! Actually that's not bad for your first time out.Just keep shooting and in no time you will be able to knock a flea off a knats a** at 50 feet!

Congrats on the new gun. New shooters should also invest in some basic instruction also. It will help your overall awareness and confidence when handeling and shooting your new gun.

Even someone like myself who shoots competitvely, active instructor and vastly experienced with firearms, I still work with an instructor to help fine tune my skills.

Again, congratulations on your purchase.

Thanks its really an easy gun to shoot, I enjoy it a lot. Yes there is plenty more practice in my future, so I can hit that flea

Where do you live that still has a waiting period, and how long do you have to wait? When I bought mine in Ohio, I walked out with it in about 45 minutes.

If we are showing waiting scars I think I win

To buy a handgun in CT you need a CCW permit. To apply for one you need your safety class certificate, drivers license, a passport and the form itself fully filled out and notarized. You appear locally at your town's police station for a scheduled interview and then they run the app through state and federal background checks. You are supposed to hear back from them in 60 days, but if it takes longer there is no recourse. When I submitted mine they told me processing was taking about 10 weeks on average. So I'm still a range rental guy, but hopefully for only a little bit longer.

wow that sucks. We have to wait about 6 weeks for our foid cards. then its just the 3 day 1 day wait. That is unless your in the city of Chicago then thats a whole nother animal. It sounds similar to what you have to go thru. Glad I am not in Chicago. Hope you get your permit sooner than later

Did you current decision have anything to do with our current president and his policies?

Why did you decide to exorcize your right to "keep and bear arms" written under the Second Amendment of the the United States Constitution?

I say because you still can but might not be able to under the current administration! They may try to outlaw your possession of any firearm if not stopped, the decision is yours if you like being able to defend yourself with your firearm!
