Picked up the Springfield SA-35 Hi Power range report added

Not a weakness of the general HP design, but certainly of what can happen with two piece barrels. I have seen and handled a Browning HP with the two piece barrel partly separated. The buyer of this gun in particular was going to out some bucks to replace or repair the barrel. I am hoping the SA 35 has a one piece. One piece is very doable in today's CNC machine world.

Based on the pictures of early production/testing samples, it looks like it has a one piece stainless barrel. RemSport/TR Enabling makes one piece stainless replacement Hi-Power barrels, maybe they are actually the barrel supplier for Springfield Armory?

BTW has anyone actually handling a new SA 35 noticed if the barrel was one piece or two piece manufactured? Some of the previous Browning manufacture was two piece and occasionally would separate in use.

looks to me to be one piece.

Check out the late Stephen Camp's website "Hi Powers and Handguns" for comments about two-piece barrels. Personally, I'm interested in seeing one of those SA-35s. I already own two Hi-Powers (I like!), would not be averse to owning a third, but not at scalpers' prices!

I personally have never heard of the Belgium HP 2 piece barrel separating. I've been an active member of the 1911/HP forum for over 10 years, and would have been aware of a problem. Steven Camp also states, in his two books, that he had never seen a failed 2 piece barrel and if one ever did fail, it would be from a manufacturing defect, and not from use. :D

SA likely would buy the barrels from an outside vendor. They'd be buying enough to have that vendor mark the barrel with whatever SA would want. Years ago Bar-Sto was the go-to for a premium after market barrel. Doubt if SA would consider them for their base 35 due to cost.
