Thanks guys there is something about stainless steel I have to polish

I was not sure about polishing a 642 but now understand you polished the cylider and barrel. It actually looks a lot better thab I thought it would. Nice job !

Personally, and just my opinion, I still just cannot get past the lock. Nice looking revolver otherwise.

Looks good. The last 642 I sent to Karl Sokol I had him mirror polish the trigger and back half of the cylinder while doing some other work. Makes for a classy BBQ gun.....

I really like the look! How did you avoid altering the finish on the frame when you polished the barrel?

Now imagine if you stripped that crappy paint & clearcoat and had a more durable finish, like anodizing, applied. I believe hard anodizing can be done in just about any color including matte silver. Even Ceracoat may be more durable than the OEM paint job.

BTW, Nice job!

I agree, Nice Job!!

I did the same with my 642 "beater" but didn't spend enough
time to get a good, deep, even shine....

I was just looking for something a little bit different.

After I did the polishing on the stainless parts of the 642 I then colored in the
lettering on the bbl with blue, in keeping with S&W colors, fingernail polish. ;)

Shown below on the unpolished barrel of my M638.

Here is a new .357 model 60 buffed up. Course, being all steel, I could shine the whole gun. Grips are from Altamont.

I am cut of the same cloth; my trigger pullin' friend. I have used ... jewelers crocus cloth[ emery paper ] WENOL [made in Germany] FLITZ; and best = SIMICHROME polish. All these helped to shine my Mod. 67-1 to a totally regal luster. I KINDA' OVER DID MINE Cleandean [ hence the nickname]

Cleandean, Not tedious at all. I use a 6 inch buffing wheel on my grinder and stainless buffing compound. No hand work. Goes pretty fast unless the gun was satin to begin with. Smiths surface are pretty smooth from the factory. Here is a Ruger Hunter, 44 mag, that came brushed. I sand those with 600/1200 wet/dry paper using WD40, not water. Lots of fun.
