Pictures of my Shield 9 Preformance Center

My shooting buddy and I are both lusting after the Shield but when we tried one we were very disappointed in the very stiff mags. We were lucky to get 5 or 6 rounds into the things by hand (or thumb). I still want the gun but am concerned about the mags. Some say they will loosen up if left full (assuming you can fill one) for "some time". Others take to Dremeling the follower. I might do the first, but if it takes the second approach I am less impressed by the engineering behind this critical component. What say those of you who have used the mags for a while?

The perfect fix for this is to get a MagGuts kit for each of your Shield magazines at magguts.com. The kit uses a double capture spring setup and a redesigned follower to make room for about 1.25 more rounds in the magazine. It does this and still retains the factory specs for follower spring pressure. The end result is you can carry an extra round in your magazine (8 rounds instead of 7 in the standard magazine and 9 instead of 8 in the extended magazine!). The extra bonus that makes these kits worth their weight in gold is that since the kit makes MORE than 1 round of room in the magazine, it is far easier to insert all of the rounds, and it is FAR, FAR easier to insert a topped off magazine in the gun with a round already in the pipe! I've run more than a thousand rounds through my Shield 9 with the new MagGuts kits without so much as a hiccup!

Love the sights on my 9mm PC shield and have the Magguts spring in one mag, which does make the loading easier.
My problem is I'm shooting about 3" low at 50'. Does anyone else have a similar experience?

bwberm,
That white lettering is all me. I like mine like that.
I have the Magguts in my Glock 43 and works very well. I have no problem with loading my Shield but would like the extra round. I will have to invest in the Magguts for the Shield.

I haven't tried mine at that distance yet (range i normally use maxes out at 10 yds) but what ammo are you using and have you tried other grains?
I'm still learning all this myself, but from what I understand at those longer distances (for a self defense short barreled gun anyway) there could be some variation on point of impact between 115, 124, and 147 grain ammo.

Thanks. I may do that if they don't loosen up some more through use.
Don't be in such a hurry to see the mag springs loosen up. That's one of the most important things to keeping the gun cycling reliably. The mag feed has to be solid and quick.

Is there something about a Shield that necessitates such stiff springs? My Smith 1911 and LC9 are 100% reliable and no where near as hard to load.
