A couple of comments in UncleEd’s thread about pineapple on pizza got me to thinking, and I didn’t want to hijack his thread. I happen to like ham and pineapple pizza a lot and generally order that style more than anything else. I don’t have any Italian in me, so that’s my excuse
I remember the first time I ever tried it was at a port call in Bunbury, Australia. The first night we pulled in and everyone was heading to Perth for liberty, and I had the duty. We found a little pizza joint called Drooleys that would deliver to our quarterdeck. They had an option called Hawaiian pizza and being stationed at Pearl Harbor, we had never heard of it. Ordered a couple of those with a bunch of others for the duty section on the ship. It was a big hit, with all of the slices disappearing in just a few minutes. I snagged one and immediately liked it. Tried it a couple more times before we departed and was sold on it. We all liked Drooleys enough that their logo made it into the cruise book for the Westpac of ‘82.
