I'd actually go with a 4th option: Something like the Kel-Tec Sub2000. It makes no sense to me putting a pistol round in something as heavy as an AR. A nice, sub 4-lb, simple carbine is what I'd like to see. I know S&W likes to appeal to the government agencies, but I think they'd be successful pitching this as a bug out gun.

I wish S&W would make a Mod 29 Revolver Rifle like the Taurus rifle.
16.5 inch bbl with a picatinny rail designed so you could use the iron sights with the optic removed.
I have killed several deer and pigs with a 44 Mag rifle. It is as good as ANYTHING out to 125 yards.

I had a CX4 Storm for a while in 45. It was accurate, dependable but a little heavy for its size. With blowback operation that is to be expected. While I can understand the pistol carbine attraction I found after I got mine I used and found uses for it a lot less than I anticipated. It moved on quickly. I am certain others will think differently. The Storm also was a little on the pricey side. I almost got a Hi Point and looked seriously at them but they seemed to me even a little heavier than the Storm.
My suggestion to S&W is if you build one make it as light as you can, have larger capacity magazines available for those that like that sort of thing and have the controls easy to use and either make it ambidextrous or easily swapped. The Storm was not completely easy to swap. No polymer internals like the Storm either.

I think a Sub2000 type of rifle for a pistol caliber would be an obvious product for any large manufacturer. I'm actually sort of shocked that Ruger hasn't tried something similar with their Mini platform. It seems like it would fill a whole entry level to pull people who already own the pistols into the rifle side.

From 1985 - 1999, Marlin produced the Camp 9. Fortunately I now own both the Sub2000 in 9mm that uses the Glock 17 mags and a Marlin Camp 9 that takes the Model 59 mags. Had a 59 so the Marlin purchase was a no brainer. Bought the Sub2000 then felt compelled to buy a plasto-o-matic

Since S&W already makes an AR-type rifle, they could easily make a pistol caliber AR using M&P magazines.
This is the next letter I sent.
Sir I'm not a inventor. I'm just a shooter. That would like to have a rifle that I could used the same ammo and my magazines of my M&P pistol. Their are on the market now AR-15's that will take glock or colt style magazines because they have been design with a integrated magwell milled to take them. You would have to design and manufacture a new bolt, trigger group and recoil spring and buffer. Here are a few companies that make AR-15 lowers that have a Dedicated magazine well for Glock or colt style magazines.

I hope you get their attention with your letters. I had a Camp 9, but was offered way more than I had in it, so it got traded. I immediately missed having a pistol caliber carbine. I recently gave in and picked up a used CX4 Storm, and so far so good. But I think you're on the right track. I don't really want to buy a Beretta 92, so I won't. But I would buy a full size M&P if I had a matching carbine!
Ditto on that. The 59/Camp 9 combo is a hard one to beat IMO.

Huh. I would be interested in a carbine in .44 Mag or 500 S&W, but if S&W won't take suggestions from anyone except inventors with a patent pending, then I guess this forum thread is a total waste and might as well be removed!
