Pistol rack?

Darn! I don't know why I didn't think of using "prop rods" in the trigger guards! :o

I have a number of wire racks, but some of my guns have to lay flat on the shelf. Not a very good use of the space. Empty shotgun shells will do the job until I get busy and make something better.

They were all like that before the racks! ;)

When I bought my safe my wife complained about a refrigerator-sized box coming into my "man cave. I justified it by telling her it could also hold our important papers, checkbook, and jewelry. "I get more jewelry" she exclaimed?
Now I am allocated only a portion of the safe for my guns and the handguns are stacked on the floor of the safe in padded cases along with an AR and shotgun. The grandsons .22 rifles are in a separate stack-on with an electronic lock.
I do admit that it is very convenient to have all our papers in one place and that safe is opened and closed multiple times per day. If I were younger I would add a second just for me.

For those of you that use the foam racks have you ever had any problems from the foam retaining moisture/humidity? That would be my concern about them but otherwise I like them.

Gun Sorage Racks

Been using the Hyscore system for several years. Optimum protection, minimum exposure to handling damage. Can purchase 3 gun unit and can remove from storage without possibility of damage to other revolvers. Akin to storing revolvers in a cushioned easy chair.

Nope, never had an issue.

Had a shop give me a Versatile Rack for free.
It needs a cleaning. That will give me a chance to see if I like that model.

One of my safes has a peg board on the door. I bought metal peg board hooks and double dipped them in that liquid rubber that dries like the rubber grips on pliers. Hang handguns by triggerguards w enough spacing not to rub each other. In other safes I have used wire racks as shown by others. They work well.

I've tried pistol socks but I've got enough handguns that digging to make sure I've grabbed the right pistol to put in the range bag is irritating to me.

I will also put in a good word for Manaboutracks.com

I have three of his 4 and 5 gun racks in my safe in different configurations. They were not cheap but with the things I truly cherish I never regret buying quality.

The peg board hooks are a no go for me. My safe came with them and I used them for awhile, then my wife goes in there looking for some paperwork and knocks one of my 57's off (she's pretty careless). At least it landed on her foot and didn't hit the floor directly (tongue in cheek). I started researching racks the next day and came upon Rick's great racks. He's a local boy just up the coast from me and a veteran. He builds them himself with locally sourced materials, so they are truly "Made in America " and great quality. I've since filled up my 14 gun rack and will be purchasing another soon. manaboutracks.com

I'm glad your 57 came to no harm! My wife appreciated fine firearms even before we got married!

I use bamboo dish racks from Amazon. They can be easily cut to size and be connected with dowels. Good enough for those old revolvers.

Been there:
solution A)buy another safe....a larger one
solution B)build a safe room...a larger one than what you think you will ever need
solution C)you can repeat A) or B) or the cheap way is to use your old socks to stash your handguns into after they've been cleaned and generously sprayed with Balistoil.
Personnally,I've used A) and B) and the Boss(she hates it when I call her that)has put a legal injunction to stop me from using A) or B) again.Guess that's because she doesn't want to repair my old socks anymore!

My collectible S&Ws rest on glass shelves. For pistols and some revolvers I use wire racks like the ones pictured in the back of the safe. A space saving way to store 18 handguns, six on each rack. Paid $15 each many moons ago at the Big Tulsa gun show.

Don't use racks, a combination of silicone socks and zippered pistol rugs.
But - did hear of a good cheap hack some years back that does work.

WalMart plastic dinner plate racks.
Using a razor or stout scissors, clip out about every other divider.
Instant handgun rack for near nothing.

An update to a previous post. In addition to the Hyskore racks on the two shelves, I've also used the handgun hangers in my older/smaller safe to get a few extra spots. I never really cared for them, they are springy, hang the pistol low and never want to stay in the same place. That said, I'm running out of safe space (again) and needed to find a way to increase capacity. I decided to cut them all in half and mount them to the shelf using stainless brake line brackets. Worked like a charm and picked up 19 spots - 2" centers. Given my past history that should buy me at least a few years ;).

Reading through this thread, and looking at the pictures, some of you guys make me feel like a bad parent.

One the other hand, I specifically collect guns that have been through much worse ;)

I use a small safe for 3 revolvers (only one of which is valuable sentimentally) in gun socks and some desiccant packs and a few boxes of ammo. Most of the others I keep in my Craftsman tool chest of drawers in two of the larger, lower drawers in gun socks and lock the tool chest up. Not as secure as a safe but mainly in case the grandkids would get curious. They are all checked to make sure they're rubbed with oil rag. I don't have near as many guns as yinz guys but it works for me. Regular carry pistol goes to bed near me and close by during the rest of the day. I really like those safes some of you have. (Gun envy?) Do you use humidity control, like a cigar humidor type thing? I would believe too much or too little humidity would be bad for the wood, rubber, & metals.
