Please explain this

I got called out early this morning. I was alone on an interstate highway. No cars around anywhere. It was in a rural area. Nothing but grass and trees on the side of the road.

Suddenly I got hit by some object to my windshield. Small crack but it was there. Nothing that would have caused a rock to hit my windshield. About a mile down the road, I got hit again and another small crack. My tires would not have thrown a rock since they do not stick outside the fenders.

So where would objects have came from to hit near the top of my windshield?

If you figure it out, let us know. It's happened to me, too. Only thing I could figure was wind - trees were moving around pretty well when it happened.

I've had the same thing happen twice. No other vehicles in sight. Each time, the object struck the top of the right front fender at such a slight angle that it was barely deflected and hit the lower right corner of my windshield. I can't say for certain but I believe it might have been a .22 although it's hard to say without a recovered projectile. The two incidents took place 50 miles from each other so I don't think anyone was hunting me specifically but just pure coincidence.

They could throw a rock *down* and forward so that it bounces up and forward. As it falls back, you drive into it.

A roll over accident.

These cracks do not show pellet type impacts. They are just small pecks and a small running crack.

The nearest house would have been maybe a half mile away and it was 2:30am or so. Even the interstate was virtually deserted.
