I have a revolver that my gun guy is saying is rare and limited production.
It is stainless steel. The barrel reads "357 Magnum". The grip is black polymer. The yoke has only the letter "S" no number.
The side of the gun reads "Wesson Firearms". No other family name. Mfg "Palmer Mass USA". Serial number starts "S00XXXX". The story goes that Seth Wesson began manufacturing this gun. ATF seized his inventory and records for not having a mfg FFL.. Less than 100 were made and even fewer made it to the open market. Can you help with the identity this gun and the story.

That's a Dan Wesson M-15 in stainless. First marketed in 1968 by Daniel B. Wesson IV, great- grandson of Daniel B. Wesson. The gun was actually designed by Karl R. Lewes who also designed the Colt Mark III action and the Browning Lever Rifle. The Dan Wesson revolvers are noted for their easily interchangeable barrels. The grips are Pachmayrs. After Dan IV's passing in November 1978 the company went through several changes of ownership. Not currently in production. "Those in the know" find them quite desireable.

From what I have read it is likely a Dan Wesson model 715. That was the designation for stainless steel guns in 357 magnums. I don't buy that story at all. I've seen many stainless DW revolvers throughout the years and continue to do so. It's my understanding that the guns produced in Palmer, MA. were built there during a time when Dan Wesson moved production from Monson, MA to Palmer because of the companies faltering financial situation and bankruptcy proceedings at the time. I own a Palmer stamped stainless 44 magnum with a fixed 6" barrel and a stainless 357 magnum with removable 4" and 6" barrels, plus a few blued models 15 and 15-2 357 magnums. Here is a photo of my stainless 715, a 357 magnum from the Monson production period. The 4"-barrel shroud is from later production when CZ purchased the Dan Wesson company.
